Little bothered is asking for a PS2 for his birthday. I've tried explaining to understanding wife that the PCs do the same thing better and cheaper but she says " yes but that's what he wants" Can't argue with that!
Would we be able to play any games between the PS2 and the PCs?
What is involved?

Sorry Mr B. but as far as I know there are no PS2 to PC games out there. Also, try and persuade him to go for the XBOX. I have both and the XBOX is a far better console.

I too have both and XBOX is far better. He is also right that you cannot play a PS2 against a PC.
I have 2 XBOXen and you can network them. We play xbox lans all teh time.
You can even host a PC half life server on an XBOX so PCers can play on it.
//Edit the server part requires a mod. I would Highly suggest modding the xbox as it becomes SO much more than just a gaming console, and modding a console has never been easier.

There is one game that you can play PC to PS2 over the network adapter. That game is Final Fantasy XI. As far as I know this is the only game that allows both PC and PS2 players to meet up with each other though.

Depending on age, I'd go for the XBox, GCube if he is younger maybe. I have a cube, and a XBox, and my gamecube is just a paperweight right now.
Guys, the kid already knows what he wants...

actually, you can play NFSU comp/ps2 ... tho on lan i doubt seeing as how the game doesn't have native lan support, and the only way to do it requires running both a server app and a client app on the computers (respectively) so doing it on a ps2 would be impossible

Well it's his birthday tomorrow and he's getting the PS2 harry potter pack. I shown understanding wife everything you guys said but she said "yes but, it's what he wants". A few of his friends have PS2s so I've been out voted. Ho hum.

He just loves it. Been playing Burnout with him this morning. Bit naughty of Sony though, pay £180 for the console then find out if you want to save anything I have to buy a memory card for another £20. Tut tut Sony, dirty play!
