:celebrate :celebrate :celebrate

NOW is the time to invest in the A64 market!

None of these Athlon K8 CPUs ran at temperatures we we would call "hot." They run nowhere near the high temps you will see out of Intel's extremely hot Prescott CPUs.

The prices on all those processors are through the roof though. AMD is screwing up not coming out with a lower clocked socket 939 proc that's somewhat affordable. :shakehead

I have my eye on the 3500+. It is too high priced for me right now though. I plan on rebuilding my system late this summer so hopefully it'll come down in price to under $300 by that time. I agree that the prices are too high at this time. It'll be interesting to see what AMD does with its prices now that it finds itself as the market leader rather than the alternative chip producer.

Sadly no 3200+ or 3400+ Socket 939. Great looking CPU's but Im honestly dissapointed in what they brought to the table.

I know everyone is jumping "woohooo socket 939".. but I think this is bad marketing and not really going to help market penetration.

Sorry AMD. Putting them in the Intel EE level price bracket and no bang for buck CPU, that IS going to hurt you.

I agree on you with the pricing shorty. I'm watching them closely on this. They shouldn't alienate their loyal following by setting their prices so high. It'll be interesting to see if Intel offers a dramatic price drop on their EE series chips to undercut AMD and force a price change upon them. Talk about role reversal if they do.

Negative to that. I know from my convos with Chipzilla, that Intel consider the EE family a special limited processor.. for which they can and will insist on big dough.

They will simply drop the price of the high end prescotts. The EE will always be expensive, as they market it purely as "the best of the best with a BIG price tag" ;)

Right on there, Shorty. If you notice, even Intel came out with lower clocked Prescott's when introduced earlier this year, to penetrate the value class too. IMO, AMD is setting themselves up for a big fall with the artifically high prices for socket 939 right now. I think that one reason for hammer's small success with major oem's is that first they came out and announced right off the bat that socket 754 has a very limited lifespan and will be phased out in another year or 2 and relegated to the el-cheapo boxes before that and now by not introducing a value line(cheaper, slower) of socket 939 procs. Which major oem wants to invest in something that will give them trouble supporting 3 years down the road (socket 754) or doesn't have a value processor for entry level systems (socket 939)?

Watch it. I predict 25-30% price drops within 60 days.

Socket 940 is going to STAY as the Opteron.
Socket 939 is going to STAY as the enthusiast-level 3x00/FX-xx.
Socket 754 is going to become the "Duron" of the Athlon 64 line.

This was the initial CPU roadmap style that AMD had first illustrated, and it's expected to be consistent for many years now that they've got their hiccups ironed out.
