ATI has released a new Radeon X800 based demo called Crowd. This demonstration shows the vertex shader processing power of the X800 being used to render a large crowd of soldiers (1400 in total) running across a rocky terrain. All of the models feature weighted skinned vertices and are independently animated.

does this demo only work on X800 cards? Ive seen it posted everywhere, how many people can even run it? Apparently my 9700 Pro cannot.

By default, the .exe will only work on X800s most likely, yes. It'll probably work with a wrapper. You could try the ruby wrapper...

Buahaha. Speaking of wrappers, I remember when they introduced a wrapper for the Dawn scene, and it ran better on the 9700 series than the GeForce 5800 series..
Actually, I shouldn't be laughing, because that was true for everything.
