We've just come back from the Titanic exibition at the Manchester museum of science and industry. I've seen a few documentarys and the movie, now I've seen the bits they brought up. There is a large piece of the hull, a two and a half ton piece, and I touched it. It's big, black, full of huge rivets and I held it. There's lots of other pieces, lots of the ship and quiet a few personal belongings, a top hat, a boot, business cards, money and jewelry, and it all sank in 1912. Awesome. I was there in my SM tee shirt and I touched a piece of the Titanic.
We also went for a ride on an 1830 steam train but Titanic, wow.

I touched the Berlin wall once. It was like.. a wall.. and I touched it. With my hands. It was awesome ;)
Sarcasm aside, it can be quite cool to get close to such historical memorials. Usually a lot of thick atmosphere...
But then again, there's people that'd just go as above. 'It's a wall! Who cares!' - 'It's a ship! Who cares!' - bah ;)
what a great experience!
any photos, bothered?

No. There's signs everywhere 'no cameras'. I'd love to have taken some pics but...
It was a little emotional really. When you go in you get a boarding pass made out in the name of one of the passengers. The first thing you come to is the ships bell 'which was rung three times when the iceburg was spotted'. The last thing you come to is a wall chart of all the passengers, lost - rescued. There was five of us and my pass was the only one who survived. Major Arthur Godfrey Peuchen. When you see all the names of those that died and you can see some of their (possible) belongings, it brings it home how big a disaster it was.
It was a little emotional really.
yes, i can only imagine...
