View Full Version : NEC 2500a to 2510a???
Could someone shed some light on this for me? I heard that you can add DL (dual-layer) support with a firmware upgrade? Is this correct....has anybody successfully done this? Thanks for the insight.

it can be done... but you risk hosing your nec drive as re-version back from 2510 to 2500 has not been tested. There is also no promise that it will work properly.

Yes it is possible. The firmware upgrade actually makes your 2500a into a 2510. There are a certain percentage of ND 2500a drives that will not write to the DVD+R DL (Dual Layer) discs. The only way to find out is to try. I have three 2500a drives and two can now write to DVD+R DL (Dual Layer) media. The third errors out after a few seconds. I cannot find any physical difference between the drives (they were all purchased at the same time from NewEgg).
Make sure that you understand. The drive will not write to DVD-DL (minus) discs or DVD-DL-RW (minus) Rewriteables. Only the DVD+R DL (Dual Layer) media. Also, the media must be good quality (I use Sony).

This hacked firmware was developed by a guy named Herrie and his site is at http://www.herrie.org/ (http://)
