FISH STORY FROM WICHITA EAGLE NEWSPAPER
This was a pretty interesting story from The Sunday Wichita Eagle Newspaper
a couple of weeks ago. Was in a housing development around 119th st. South
and Maple. Anyhow a resident in the area saw a ball bouncing around kind of
strange like in the developments pond and when he went to investigate, it
was a flathead catfish who had obviously tried to swallow a child's
basketball which became stuck in its mouth. The fish was totally exhausted
from trying to dive but unable to because the ball would always bring him
back up to the surface. The resident tried numerous times to get the ball
out but was unsuccessful. He finally had his wife cut the ball in order to
deflate the ball and release the catfish.

That's a lucky fish. I'd be opening up the tartar sauce about now. ;D
Poor fish. :( (Geeky wuvs catfish)... At least it got some help, although depending on how stressed it was, it may die anyhow... :-/
Holy COW!!! That is a huge Catfish. That dwarfs the biggest one my dad caught!
LOL ...oh man I would be so heating up the grease pot right now and getting the zatarans fish fry ready!

That dwarfs the biggest one you have caught! ;D
That IS a big catfish. That community needs Xander and me there to thin out the pond, to make room for the little fish to grow up! Actually, I always feel sorry for animals that are suffering needlessly. No problem catching the fish, dispatching it quickly, and eating it. But to see it suffering like that in the pictures pulls at my heart strings. (Go ahead and call me a weenie!)

Thats a big fish, biggest catfish i coughe was about 15 inches long, tasted good too.. if i had seen that i think i would be warming the oven, melting some butter and cutting a lemon

Weenie!
But that makes me one too, as I feel bad for the (relatively) little guy. Exhausted because stupid kiddies threw a ball into the water and you were just trying to keep fed.

Maybe it was swimming around looking for a hoop to spit it into.
What do those things eat normally, other fish?, ducks?, dogs?, horses? That's a big fish.
Catfish are omnivorous, they eat anything that will fit into their mouths (and obviously try to eat things that won't) but they are generally known to be bottom feeders that eat refuse.
Those get to over a 100 pounds commonly. Flatheads get huge. That said.. I would rather EAT a 2 lb channel cat any day then one of those suckers...
Compare a piece of prime steak from a 3 year old cow with a 15 year old bull with no teeth thats been gumming grass for the last 4 years for taste. thats the differance in that flathead and a prime channel cat.
We ran trot lines as a kid and caught tons of huge cats.
