Doom 3 on August 3rd?

The rumors are flying, and vendor dates are synchronizing. It appears as if game retailers received word from Activision that the game will be released shortly (a few sources claim 8/03/04 is the magic date in the USA, with a release on the 13th for the UK). Furthermore, resellers such as Amazon.com and EBgames have all changed their ETA dates to 8/3/04, which would be an interesting coincidence if it were truly just a rumor.

I'll head over to my local EB Games and try to find out if they received any such notice. I know some people at Best Buy who may be able to tell me as well.

Yeah, I'm going to EB games downtown Royal Oak to see if they've recieved word, if they did, I still won't raincheck a copy.

I picked up a preorder box (poster and puter) from Best Buy a couple months ago. Not so much to secure a copy, but because I had to have the poster in my room.

Because he and I both refuse to buy a game on hype alone. I will see reviews and test a copy via a friend who does buy by hype first, as will he.

Who knows? Doom 3 could be the most expensive failure in the history of video games. Entirely remote, but a valid consideration.

Quake 3 was a juggernaut of crap. My view of ID is considerably lessened in light of it.

Looks like August 5th is the magic date up here in the Great White North (at least according to local vendors). :)

I just got back from my local EB Games store where I learned Activision has in fact confirmed Doom 3’s August 3rd release.

While the game's official release date is the 3rd, EB cannot guarantee its in-store availability until the 4th.

Just to add some fuel to the fire, it officially went Gold today.

Which I guess means "it's done".

And it's offically been confirmed for the 3rd. 6th in UK, 13th for the rest of the world.
