View Full Version : Why would this happen?

For about 4hrs I was doing what you see in the picture. Converting all my AMV's from *.mpg, *.avi and *.asf to *.wmv because of the file size being smaller, as much as 3.5x smaller with no loss of quality (other than changing some to 320x240 from as high as 640x480). I had the computer running for almost 6.5 days w/o a restart. After about 3.5hrs of doing this, it suddenly started doing that with menus (the black area), and then got an error in windows explorer. Oh, and according to Task Manager, Windows Explorer was using about 130MB.

Is this just WinXP being stupid, or is it drivers, or my video card itself?

Oh, and doing that saved 1.42GB on 96 files, from the orginal 2.77GB total.

your problem is in your post. There comes a time in every computer user's life where they just have to restart the machine. For you, that time is now. :D

LOL, I did restart the computer, about 10 minutes before I posted that.

Perhaps a defrag?

I did that earlier this morning. Around 7AM.

that looks almost similar to the problem i was having with the F@H graphical client. Which client are you using?

I use the console client, but I wasn't running F@H at the time so I could devote more CPU cycles to the conversion.

just as a test, try setting the "hardware acceleration" tab in the display menu to the minimum or one above the min.
