Is an XP-M 2500 45W better than an XP-M 2400 35W and XP-M 2600 45W?
Thanks.

"better" in what way?

More potential for overclocking.

Not as far as I know, no. To the best of my knowledge, the best overclocker of those three is the 2600m.

They make 2400m CPUs at 35W now? I know the highest clocke ones were 2200+. I would say for the 2400+ 35W CPU.

Based on what I have seen and md my personal experience with my XP-M 2200 35W I would say that the XP-M 2400 35W is the one to get. I am getting without trying the same as peeps w/ the XP-M 2600. I also have another XP-M 220 35W in another machine running 11.5x 200 =2300 @ 1.6v that is cooled with a Coolermaster X-Silent and it is running 43C folding. :D

Well you got 2.42 on 1.7 something.

Unless the price difference over there is too great, I'd go for the 2600+
I'm quite happy with mine. I had it folding 24/7 @ 2.65GHz / 1.84v / 48c until recently but now with the HOT weather here in SoCal I had to back down to 2.5GHz / 1.63v / 44c
EQ: What program or utility were you running for that pci? Can you email it to me?
Cheers

Does Windows recognise your XP Mobiles or does it just come up as "Unknown CPU type"?
Does updating the AMD driver have any advantages?
Thanks.

Thats a motherboard BIOS issue. It's not properly recognizing the Athlon XP-M.

Does it make any difference if my Motherboard doesn't recognise my XP-M?
I have an A7N8X Deluxe 2.0 with newest BIOS, 1007.

It doesn't matter with any board. Because it is a Mobile chip designed to chage with regard to load and heat it will never be regognized by any desktop mother board. That is basicly why we are using them. Due to this versitility they need to remain unlocked and they are also the cream of the crop so to speak because they need less voltage to run. All this equates to a better O/Cing chip than the desktop version.

if the mobile will not be recognized by mobo, then, will the temperature utility on mobo tell me the temps of the cpu? or i will need some other temp monitoring things

A Mobile XP will boot with a default multiplier of 8X (Actual multipliers are unlocked and range up to 14x+). Since there is no official Barton with a clock of 1066mhz (8x 133.3mhz) It's an Unknown CPU. Otherwise it operates as and is treated as a regular Barton Core CPU
Most motherboards use a temp probe underneath the CPU to measure temps anyway.
My advice: Buy a Abit NF7-S v2, ANY XP Mobile, ANY Thermalright heatsink and build your computer.
Stop worring so much. Every one here answering your questions (in all of your various threads and postings) has built at least 5 XP Mobile systems using both Air and Water cooling systems....

Ditto!!
i posted a thread in cooling section abt AS 3 ,AS 5 and AS ceramique... but nobody replied,
AS 5 is like 2 bucks higher than ceramique,is it worth two extra bucks?

Think of it as two less *C! I don't really have any experience with the AS or cermique, but everyone says the AS5 is the best so I got that. Works great for me.
From all the reviews I've seen, it should perform maybe 1-2*C better.

Yeah its not much better. I have all 2 and AS5 is the best. I dont use the ceramique because its really thick and hard to spread.
A PCI video card will work with the NF7-S.:)
What is the best way to insure you are getting v 2.0 on the NF7-S?

Buy a New one from Newegg, NF7-S (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-127-166&depa=0) or AN7 (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-127-167&depa=0) (or purchase a used one from someone reputable.)
An AN7 is an slightly updated version of the NF7-S
DO NOT buy a NF7 S2 or S2G! No multiplier options available in these versions.
guys one more thing..
one tube like 2.3 or 3 grams is more than enough for one time. but how long does one tube last?like if i just keep the syringe unused ,will it expire sometime?
TheGr81

I got a 12-gram tube a while ago when I got my SP-94. It was months ago. I know I have over half of it left and me and a friend have used it multiple times for multiple applications. A 12-gram tube will last a long time. And I don't know if they ever expire. I know it can lose *SOME* of it's effectiveness but it will still work very well. It takes a long time for that to happen.

I'm still using some Arctic Silver 3 myself which is over a year old and no problems. As long as you keep the cap on the end of the tube, it shouldn't dry out or decompose.
i have xp2400m 35w ordered on newegg.----90
getting alx 800 and tt smartfan2 svc.com for---16+10
getting 3g AS 5 from svc for---6
the rest that i am going to get is..from pakistan
abit nf7-s v2
some atx casing
one stick of 256mb ddr 400 from kinston...not hyperX
i got hdd,cdrom,floppy,monitor,modem etc already.
ppl,if i am missing some crucial thing plz let me know.
are those ram heatsinks or chipset coolers necessary ??when are those required?
today we built this system and it's rock solid at 2.5g/400fsb with ram at 2-2-2-11.
I've left it folding overnight with some tinkers and we'll see in the morning ...if all is well I'll do some gromacs which should really put it throught the torture test. Did I mention stock voltages??? This thing is very quiet and very cool.

one more thing, i wont have tooo many things..i was thinking that some average or cheap psu will work for me,since i am short on money..
what would u recomend i get? like how much Amps at 12v rail...

NO need for extra cooling on the RAM or chipsets. What they come with will do fine.
DO NOT go cheap on the PSU. Get a nice Antec, Enermax or other quality PSU. Remember, the PSU supplies power to all of your components so done go cheap.

It's all luck of the draw!
The best way to increase your chances of getting a good overclocker is to order a few 2600 Mobiles and test them. Keep the best one or two and sell the rest on eBay.
The above worked for me; I kept the 2 that would do 2.7+ Ghz and sold the rest on eBay. I ordered 6 total.
