Was SHort-Media.com 'Out' for a while?

What happened to Short-Media.com as I my internet could not get into it. Was there a problem?

I'm pretty sure the server was down; I couldn't access the site for a while either.

Just my own comment.. I constantly have problems accessing this site... dunno if it is the forums, or whatever, but on a daily basis I will be "kicked" off or something cuase one second it will work, then the next it will appear to be down. My site is hosted by Sarcnet, and I don't have those problems with my site, thus my theory on the forums being my problem.

But then, I just don't know.

Let's give major kudos to Primesuspect, -tk, and Shorty for some great work here to make sure Short-Media is up and running for us all. For security reasons, obviously it cannot all be explained publicly, but they have done some pretty smart things to safeguard us from future attacks.

Yes. The site did go out. We aren't going to hide behind a "yeah, got a problem or two here". We were/are getting attacked.

Between us, we have worked on some solid mechanisms to defeat the attack. More measures to come, we aren't going anywhere :cool:

Kudos, you server folks, for deflecting bad and protecting from bad and elminating some things that let it get attacked easier before.... Proof you did "is in the pudding--" so "she's" up and working sweetly now.

2 reasons:

1 -

Someone is using compromised servers


That means that the attacks are coming from servers that have been exploited themselves . Someone has gained access to them via a trojan or exploit, then launched their script to mess with our site from that server. So we cannot point to someone and say "They did it, go sick 'em Short-Medians." They don't have the guts, the courage, the balls to say "Hey Short-Media, this is who we are." They prefer instead to hide, feeling like big men when they are in fact chicken-**** little sissies who are afraid of getting caught.

2 - We don't do that here anyways. The ownership of SM will not lower themselves to that level, fight an attack with an attack. They have implemented new ways to protect the site, as has already been done, and continue to monitor and investigate where and how the attacks have come. If a cuplrit can be found, there are legal means of recourse that can be attempted. To use code to knowingly try to disable another computer which does not belong to you is illegal and punishable under law. But to fight back with a similar tactic would put us in the same boat, and the same category as these cowards. The ownership will not do that, as they are above it.

They are using compromised servers because they know that if they were to get caught, I would not be so lenient as I was last time :wave: and this time I would not stop legal proceedings against the person or people who are illegally accessing my server across international boundaries.
