P$ 3.2e...Prescott temps.

From differents conversations via threads, we downloaded "Speedfan" and checked the temps of the prescott against the Abit EQ.

This is a screenshot of both the programs. Still a bit too hot for my liking, so i am in the process of pulling it down and fitting a "SilentStream" baby water cooler onto it. We bought this to introduce us to watercooling and to see how it would compare to a standard CPU heatsink and fan.

The Prescott seems like a good project to play with.

Any thoughts on these readings??

Abit IS10 mobo in a Super Lanboy case, which has 2x 120mm fans.
2x 256M sticks of PC3200 ram.
No other stuff fitted, like Graphics or pci cards, so basically an empty case.

Obviously working hard at folding 2x WU's in HT mode. Strange thing is, 1 WU is processing at around 3Gig, the other at around 2.8Gig. None of our other 3.2c procs go that low. :rolleyes:

Confusing, is it not. :rolleyes: I can check the temp at the exhaust fan or PSU exhaust side and it's cool. As you say, the Preshot is fair enough, but the system?

I'm just hoping that the SilentStream will cool the CPU to at least the same if not bettter by a few degrees. Still deliberating where to fit the fan/radiator. I do know it will be on the outside. Guess i'll know when i shut the puter down and see where the hoses allow me to go.

Got a few spare 80mm fans. Might put a second one on it as well. The old "Push/Pull" effect, lol.

My guess is that the 63 is correct, and they used a different thremister on the mobo so hte system temp does not calibrate. Do either of the programs let you play with sensor type?
If you can find the actual sensor on the mobo measaure its resistance when you have the system off and opened. Then measure it again when the system is hot. My guess is that the offset and/or slope of the sensor response is different.

Thats because you got a Preshott. They are worse at folding. They are obviously hotter as well.

Had i been aware of the folding part, i would have tried to get another Northwood. Getting much harder to come by now. :bawling:

Wasn't too worried about the heat as that can be fixed, just the folding as that is all it does. :rolleyes:

Once the heat issue is taken care of the folding issue should fix itself if I'm understanding the cpu throttling methods that were initiated on the Prescotts correctly.

Got it pretty much sorted now i think.

Changed it to the baby watercooler, which dropped the temp a bit. Then changed it over to a Gigabyte 2004GT, which did a much better job of it.

Sorted the problem of incorrect proc speed by getting another mobo, as the one i was using was not Prescott friendly.

All appears to be good now.
