Crossover to Patch?

I have no tools or any extra cable here at my parents, and of course my mom has no clue(despite certifications) what she is doing.

Naturally I am having to CLEAN out her PC again, clean up thenetwork she has made, again... blah blah blah... I give up I just want my PC connected to the router I bought her, but the patch cable I used to have here is stuck in the wall and the only option I really have is to somehow make this crossover cable... patch.

Again, I have no tools.. and I haven't done anything like this in so damne dlong I have no clue what I am doing anymore.

Any ideas?

Radioshack and Microcenter both sell little tiny converter boxes. Plug the crossover end into the crossover cable, and then plug a patch cable into the patch cable end. Voila, instant patch cable.

I managed to pull the patch cable out of the wall... but for some reason it won't work. The router won't see it connected, nor my PC. I looked it over and see no signs of wear or tear. It's basically like new as far as I can tell.

WTF... this is making me insane. Plus I am now going insane trying to constantly reconnect my mom's pc to the internet becuase the DSL sucks like hell. pft...

Ok, the router is appearently fubar from a storm :( only one port is working.

So, problem is about as fixed as it's gonna be. :p
