Hi all, dont mind my english but i'll give it a try also im just a novice when it comes to AV Software etc.
Now the thing is, there is so much competition among AV software creators etc..there is so many out now which makes it so hard to choose from.
From the novice users point of view, same goes for many things in real life too..why couldn't those great minds all work together instead of making each their own piece..i mean if there's just 1 kind of software with the best features and their knowledge of past & todays virii knowledge that are known, u just need 1 piece of software that does it all.. i mean for real..
this is pretty much disturbing me this thing should be the way it should go in the future or could be started right here and right now.
Installing 23423423423 softwares is not realistic! if many people work on one specific thing, the tasks and jobs could be devided among them which makes the work less tough to keep up and running, so many people, each have their own knowledge and creativity for finding cures not to mention glitches/holes etc which then could be used by a creative virus programmer of infection, with such force that would be incredible, i mean comon, ppl are that smart yet this doesn't happen, can u guys imagine how it would be if that was the case ? 1 awesome program worked on by numerous great minds (great minds that represent freeware) or for sale for that matter, and not expensive atleast u don't have to hesitate what th choose from the billions programs out there(exagurated), there's more that i would like to say but i im not sure how to express further :)
please let your minds write in this thread for discussion.

Well, I think the easy answer to that is to compare it to any other commercial venture. If there was only one product, there would be no choice to the consumer. There would be a monopoly. Monopolies are bad, as they tend to stifle creativity and innovation, have no price competition, and in the software world, become the sole target for all malicious code writers.

Think of Microsoft: almost a monopoly except for a small number of Mac or Linux/BSD users. Limited competition means that problems don't get fixed as readily, and new ideas or innovations are slow to come: why bother spending money to improve your product when everyone uses it anyways? Why not just take home a bigger stock dividend cheque?? And look at the fact that most viruses and nearly all spwyare/adware problems target MS based OS's.

Now translate that to an antivirus app. Imagine if Norton bought out all the competition. Would their software price go up or down if they had no competition? They would continue to respond to new virus threats, but how quickly would they adapt to things like hijacks, adware, or whatever else comes next? There are already viruses that target and shut down Norton, as well as other antivirus apps, and you would see more of them I'd bet.

In a communistic utopian world, your idea is great. In a Free Market world, competition makes the products better and cheaper, so I think that is better for the consumer in the long run.

Thx Dexter for clearing that up. I didn't see it from that point of view but when u mentioned it, it sounds rather logical too. But yeah, from what u wrote i meant the Free Market World, all the anti spy/virus/ads etc. For example, there are for sure category's to place each App in.Those who fight Ads/Browser hijack/spy etc.. whatelse ever fits in this category could make alliance with foreign teams and merge their knowledge into one single app so choice/installments for users reduce to secure their comp, i know you can picture what i mean, same goes for other freebee software too.
