Hi guys,
Since my last emergency (http://short-media.com/forum/showthread.php?t=20513) a few things have been noted.
1, My PC freezes a couple of times a day, ususally to do with Nero or task manager, but not not always.
2, The PC is slower, menus seem to 'fade in' rather than instantly appear. progs seem to take longer to load.
3, I did a bios reset to get going again but I have to have memory timings on aggressive, I'm sure it was on turbo before, if I set it to turbo it won't boot.
Does anybody know of a programme like Sandra that can do a performance test and suggest what may be wrong?

edit, or suggest bios settings. I've only set the cpu speed and memory to aggressive.

By no means am I suggesting this as the only fix but.....how long since you've reformatted? I don't remember whether you have a home network on which to save the important stuff, much easier than burning a bunch of CD's of saved files. Load up a CD with mobo/chipset/video/etc files and clear off the old HD. Hrrrmmmm, much overdo for same myself.

I didn't see it when scanning the thread you linked....did you ever run memtest?

I only formatted and reinstalled xp around the end of March. Everything was fine until the last problem and that seems to be fixed now. I think it's probably bios settings that just haven't been put back to where they were I may have a trawl through the bios and maybe do a repair install of windows. How does that sound?

Theres aida32 (http://www.webattack.com/get/aida32.shtml) you could try, but it sounds like you just need a reinstall.
I do mine every 6 weeks or so

AIDA (http://www.aida32.hu/) is no more.. they have moved on to a new name/company and have a freeware and commercial version of a similar product... EVEREST (http://www.lavalys.com/products.php?lang=en)

Trinity, for your information, the guy who developed AIDA quit supporting it and is now affiliated with Lavalys and his new version of AIDA is called "Everest Home Edition". You can download it here, from their site. (http://www.lavalys.com/products/download.php?pid=1&lang=en&pageid=3)

It does all the same things as AIDA but is being kept updated, where AIDA isn't any longer.
