Well lately my 27" flat screen was looking smaller and smaller every day. I just got it in Feb because it was a nice tv and I had a 20". So I talked to my mom and dad and we went to best buy yesterday to look at tv's. I was going to get a 46" rear projection tv but it was to big for my room, so I got this beauty.

Philips 34" flat, widescreen hdtv. and omfg this thing is huge compared to my 27", I mean it is sweet. I love hdtv, now I'm gonna go get the hd pack for my xbox. Can't wait to see some dvd's on this baby either, hehe

And it only set me back a total of $1,716.66 after a 4 year warranty and a $100 coupon, w00t

And here is my old tv, it is now going in the living room. I decided if I get a new tv I would give my old one to my dad. So he came out pretty good.

Dang thats nice! I wish we could get HDTV here in europe.
Have you tried tv-out from the videocard? (If you have it that is)
I wanna see if games on tv-out have improved from the old ube.

I wonder if it is harder to manufacture HDTV for Pal.

Sweet! I did the exact same thing yesterday. Except I upgraded from a 20" to a 32" analog (I can't afford HD right now.. Heh). I got the Sony 32FS100. Picked up some component video cables and the XBox High Definition pack, and it looks wonderful. Of course it's not high definition, but it looks about a billion times better than my old 20" RCA. Haha...

Anyway, nice TV you got there!

I haven't hooked the video card up to it yet, that is soon to come. I'm gonna go pick up some component cables also, I can't wait to see Halo on this bad boy. And as soon as I get the dvd kit I will start to enjoy widescreen dvd goodness :)

Is is clear enough to use as a monitor?

How is the color reproduction?
Brightness? Contrast?

You should write an article for S-M on how to properly put that bad boy to use. :D

Now get a TiVo to record everything that interests you. I can't say enough GOOD things about TiVo. Buy it, live it, love it! :)

Speaking of TiVo, can you use it with dish network? I'm thinking not since they're usually on DirecTV, but it would be sweet, since I have dish network.

This (http://www.walmart.com/catalog/product.gsp?product_id=2175202&cat=107530&type=19&dept=3944&path=0%3A3944%3A3987%3A3996%3A107530) is the TV that has been tempting me for awhile. Finally I can put my Walmart discount to good use :D (I work there). Dirt cheap compared to Best Buy's prices, too.

Nice!

I'd have gotten something larger (In rear-projection form) if I weren't moving into a new aprtment in a week. There's no way it would have fit in my new place. Haha... Ah, well...

/me hugs his new TV.

I love it!

Actually I was going to get a 54" rear projection samsung or a 46" sony rear projection, but it would take up way too much room in my bedroom, but I'm totally happy with my purchase. The cool thing was that my mom was all for it, she put it on her best buy credit card and all.

Now I'm about to pick up the dvd pack for my xbox to enjoy some good hdtv widescreen movies, the matrix is first on my list, w00t

TiVo and DISH: From the TiVO webpage at http://www.tivo.com/1.6.5.asp:

TiVo Digital Video Recorders (DVRs) are compatible with Echostar/DISH network receivers that support IR control. If your satellite receiver has this interface, TiVo should work perfectly well. However, if you have a DISH receiver that does not support IR control, your TiVo DVR will not be able to change channels to record shows.

Listed below are models that have been tested and are compatible with TiVo DVRs. You'll need to refer to the owner's manual of your satellite receiver's to find a model number.

the video out on a monitor is not capable of adequate resolution for the tv to be used at any higher than 800x600 (really 640x480).

svideo is only 480 interlaced lines, so it's nowhere near hdtv, in fact it's not even 480p (the middle ground between hdtv and ntsc, sometimes called edtv, for enhanced definition tv).

if you had a video card that could spit out hdtv in a compenent video format, then you could hook up to your tv and get upto the max resolution your tv can support. 720p and 1080i being the best.

are there any video cards now that can output component video? that would be pretty damn cool. maybe some hdtv's have vga inputs, our dlp projector has both component and vga, so it maybe that way with tube hdtv's.

DVI to Component adapters are being made, but not cheaply. I have not seen any cards under $490.00 that do full capacity Component and do monitors and DVI.

ATI sells DVI to HDTV adapters for their cards. I know nothing about them though, since I don't own an HDTV (yet... :) ).

I have a widescreen hdtv with a dvi in port and a pc hooked up to it through my geforces dvi port. Resolutions are a bitch. on the nvidia i can get a res of 848x420 or something like that which sucks, but its hd. However with my radeons dvi port I can get a resolution of 1900x1200 and games or visulisations look just breath taking. Its sooooo sweet. I have a computer in the living room hooked up to it constantly. PC games on a bigscreen HDTV are by far the very best!!!!

Is component video a digital signal? Anyone know the max capable resolution it can carry?

I didn't even know that HDTVs came with DVI. What brand is yours, FormFactor?

It is most likely a sony. I think sony's are the only ones that do that right now, not too sure about that though.
