Hi there

I have a problem on my laptop ( IBM )
I used F11 to format my laptop
I just press F11 to do that at the start up

Now I can not do that, because I installed a software to make the coputer more faster than before.

so what is the solution for this problem

Please give me one, because I need that as fast as you can

Okay, what does this mean? Pressing F11 doesn't "format" your laptop... Format means erase the hard drive. So could you clarify what that means?

Now I can not do that, because I installed a software to make the coputer more faster than before.

What software did you install? Can you give us the name?

We need more details, like what operating system you have, what you are actually trying to do, etc.

so what is the solution for this problem

I have no idea what the problem is..... :(

I meant, to instal a new windows and to delete all the files in the hard drive.
something like restore ' I do not know what is the name exactly '

the system:

Microsoft Windows XP Professional
Version 2002
Service Pack 2

the name of the programme is "Diskeeper"

I removed it from my PC, I thought that would fix it

IBM laptops have a factory recovery console type thing. It allows you to restore the computer to factory defaults. Instead of having a CD to lose, it's stored in a seperate partition on the hard drive. Windows can't see it as a drive, but it definitely sees it when messing with the partitons through the Windows setup.

I'm still a little confused as to what happened, but if he installed another version of windows with the Windows installer, hje may have removed that partition. In which case, he'd need restore CDs from IBM to return it to its normal state.

Diskeeper is a defrag program. I don't think it can mess with the partition table at all....

Do you have a CD that came with the laptop?

Probably not if he has the restore partition. He'd have to order that from IBM. And I think that'll cost him $35 if it isn't still under warranty.

WOW!! That's nuts.

What's the model? I'll see what I *ahem* can find.

well to be quite honest it sounds like you deleted your restore partition somehow, which would only happen if you A) didn't follow IBM's instructions and B) didn't know what you were doing, so you probably should have followed their instructions.

since its your fault, pay them the damn $70

It's a very dumb idea on IBM's part to not secure the partition better. I just worked on an IBM laptop here that had the restore partition wiped because the guy who worked here before me installed Windows 2000 with an answer file that clears all partitions before installing.

It's very easy to remove that partition, so I don't think it's necessary to jump on his ass like that. $70 for two CDs with what you already paid for is a little much, IMO.

//Edit: Crap! I just checked my discs and I have them for 2658. No 2652. Blah!
