can anyone recommend a (preferably natural - ie non medication) sleep solution ?? Ive been up for close to 72 hours at this point, and as strange as it sounds, im too exhausted to sleep :( ... I did manage about an hour between 12 and 1 this morning but was up again after that, tossing and turning till i finally decided to just get back up again.
so - hit me with whatever crazy voodoo knocks you out :) ...

LOL take a glass O milk and cookies eat them while reading a book for 30 min you will pass out I get this often its cause if your pc is near you you must be on it!
I've been using ST John's Wort to get to sleep, I take 3 of those (mine are like 300mg) and it's lights out for a good 8-10hrs.

You could also try watching the presidential debates, that should put you out in 2.2 seconds. Just don't punch the clown while doing it though. That might REALLY screw you up for life... :wtf:
I'll have to try ST John's Wort too. You guys sure it's not just snake oil? It used to be marketed as an anti-depressant, and now it's a sleep-aid?
I used to take actual Meletonin tablets a couple years ago, but I've noticed that Asprin is all I really need (to kick the headaches which keep me up all night).
As some of you know, I also have a TERRIBLE problem waking up at a decent hour (just ask Brian). It seems I "wake up", turn off my alarm, and go back to bed all without being fully conceous. It's reallt frusterating because thanks to this, I'm almost never at work/school on time. :banghead: :grumble:
During summer I was only up for like six hours a day :(

I would go into the darkest and quietest rooms in the house... NO DISTRACTIONS... No phone, no humming, nothing.
Put some Enya (Paint the Sky w/ Stars) or Kitaro (Tun Haung) on at a conversation level (volume). Then think of waves washing on a shore... Think about a color (white)... Force yourself to breathe slow and easy....
Start at your toes and curl them for 10 seconds... relax... Now flex your calves for ten seconds....relax.... continue with the flexing thighs, buttocks, stomach, hands, arms, chest, neck, face then totally relax.....

It's a mood elevator/enhancer and it does help with depression when it's taken regularly...my wife used to take it for that but when you take a bit too much it makes you very sleepy and calm. That's why I take it because when I can't sleep it's because I can't seem to relax my hands and face (a term for chill out) and sleep won't come.

kinda like QCH ... but think about each body part relaxing. Or like, 'relaxation' flowing down your body. Just think about them being completely untensed (is that a word?) and relax ... I hardly ever have trouble sleeping, but when I do, this works :)

Atleast for my St. Johns Wort didn't do jack. Didn't help with depression or insomnia. One thing that really worked for me was Ambien but I think the damn thing is like $8 a pill. Doesn't make you sleepy like most meds but a wierd kind of sleepy. Works really good except like one time I woke up in the middle of the night really disorientaded (didn't even know where I was) and another, I never actually feel asleep and felt really really wierd. Other than that, it works like a charm.
Too bad you want natural I was going to say a little eather in a rag might do the trick.... ;D

I do the same thing when i have trouble sleeping.
Think of ball of light on top of ur head (don't laugh it works)
then let the ball traverse ur body where ever the light touchs it relaxes you
let it go around ur head first around ur temples down thru thru your head, eyes, jaw, cheeks, throat, down the neck and so on hiting all the parts of ur body let the light take its time going everywhere and relaxing you, work on small groups don't just think arms but think biceps triceps etc.. slowly going down one arm then up and then down the next etc... then the torso (pecs abs etc.. work all muscle groups )
after a while ur going to really start to feel ur breathing just relax and let the body do its thing
and while all this is going just think of tranquility and try not to think about anything stressfull
when i have trouble sleeping i usually do this and i'm usually asleep before i can get the light to my legs
I read, 20 minutes of that no matter what time of day it is and I'm out.
I also like Justin's approach.

Yeah reading something while laying down late at night does it for me as well. Or watching some movies do it for me too. At least I feel sleepy as all get out.

Lots of physical hard work, in whatever form. If you is knackered, you should kip.
I usually just read a book, in about 15 minutes I'm putting the Z's down.
For years I've recommended booze or spliff, but at this stage in life I finally discovered I sleep better without any intake at all. Dang, had that one wrong for quite a few years then...

Nyquill works pretty good for me although not natural. Natural is overrated anyway. :D
I Always do what I read about a few years ago...the swamis that you see stuffing themselves into airtight boxes use a meditation technique:
Imagine a VOID. Nothing else. Give yourself a few seconds to try and focus on just a void, all-encompassing.
Next, imagine a hair-thin line bisecting the void. Concentrate on keeping it hair-thin, just wide enough that your mind's eye can detect it. Keep it at the limit of your "vision", so that it has no depth.
Then, and here comes the tricky part, keep that line laser-straight!!!! The more unfocused your mind the more that "line" will waver, thicken, shrink, etc. The longest I did this was for 10 minutes where I can honestly say that I kept it arrow-straight. The swamis that stick themselves in boxes use this to relax their body to accept the reduced metabolism they induce to survive the stress they endure (and to just medidate in general). They report that they can keep that line unwavering for days...
It is one of those things that forces your mind to let go of all of the distractions that plague your subconscious.
I suffer from it too and once awakened, usually get up and eat then back to bed and read. Sooner or later I pass out, typically 3:30-4:00 am

Melatonin usually works for me.
I used to take a slug of Nyquil, but I was guaranteed to wake up exactly four hours later when it wore off.
Square breathing can help you relax. Take a slow deep breath; spread it out over a count of five. Then hold your breath for another count of five. Exhale slowly while (you probably can guess...) you count to five again. Count to five once more with your lungs empty, then repeat the whole process.
