Damnit! Even on my rather speedy connection (for regular cable at least ¬_¬) BitTorrent runs like crap! HOW do you guys do it?!

Heh, the 10Base connection in the dorms was fun, but the 100Base research connection in my office is even better :D. The only problem is finding places that can send me data faster than ~1mb/sec, but there are some.

I just wish I had the upload of a college campus. One of the things I miss out at a DeVry.

Isn't bittorrent and irc capped or even banned on college campuses?

not in Michigan.
at orientation we were recommended not to use P2P softwares, but they also said, if you do use it, just make sure u don't share stuff.
been downloading stuff on BT even since i moved into dorm, and no problems yet.
And not 10 minutes away at Eastern Michigan University:
Large image; strong language. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/1003/Thrax/Packets.jpg)
And what else do they use? The packet shapers I referred to! They analyze the structure of incoming/outgoing packets and block the traffic based on the structure, not on a port or protocol.
Emule? Blocked.
Kazaa? Blocked.
Bittorrent? Blocked.
DirectConnect? Blocked.
Soulseek? Blocked.
Morpheus? Blocked.
BearShare? Blocked.
Everything except incoming/outgoing HTTP, incoming FTP, and incoming/outgoing AIM file transfer, incoming/outgoing IRC is blocked.
It goes down for more than 20 minutes atleast five times a day, and 1-7 minutes more than 20 times a day.

Time to either run a really long network cable, or buy a powerfull, focusable WAP.

Change the ports used. Heck the site I download torrents wont allow you to use the default ports because they are usually blocked.
And if the school is like any other school, they get paid plenty but their budget isnt worth **** what they need to be.
All the ports are proxied
{Residential network} -- free traffic to here --> {Residential server} -- All ports proxied now --> {POP server} --> {Outside world}.
Man Thrax that sucks pretty bad. Here they just ratelimit you if you get too much in the past 24 hours... it's less than I got at home on cable really but I can sort of manage. (As for ports it looks like outgoing is fine, most/all incoming are blocked.) Anyway, as for you Michican guys ... aggh. Stop showing off.
