Ok, take a look at the picture below, specifically the squares marked A & B.

The two squares are exactly the same colour. Honestly, look at the picture in Photoshop if you don't believe me!

Weird huh?

That is really hard to believe. My eyes deceive me!

I did everything to prove you wrong CyrixInstead but I can't. They're the same and I still don't believe it.
I'm now prepared to believe anything you say, Even about Stoke!

even down the the CMYK color codes, they are EXACT. =(

I believe that the lighter square between A and B is, err, the same color as the lighter square between A and B. :)

Yep, it's the shadow that does it. I didn't believe it either... but it's true.

How about this one. Not so much of a 'wow I can't believe it', ans a 'wow, that looks cool'...

The idea is to focus on the dot in the centre and then move your head constantly towards and away from the monitor. You should see the circles rotate spookily!

N.B. Cyrix cannot be held responsible for anyone who moves their head towards the screen and forgets to move it away again!

Grrr ..... damn disclaimers.

Not only do the rings appear to rotate, but the center of the image also seems to bubble forward, like the 3D pictures in the newspaper.

We need a sticky optical illusion thread! These are great.
I saw a thing on TV many years ago that demonstrated an audio illusion. They played a kind of looping note changing in pitch. It sounded like a scale but overall it didn't change, Very wierd, I'd love to hear it again.

regarding that ab thing. we did some of that in my art class last year. wow is that weird effect. now i can't remember what it's called though. hmmm. you can also do it where two colors are different, but appear the same.

it's amazing how our eyes (really most everything about us) are basing everything relative to something else. the shadow and the light letter on one and dark letter on the other make that effect so powerful.

Well... the way I see it (not the image but the subject)... Our brains and our eyes are similar to computers. Our brains have to translate the data sent from our eyes. The algorithm our brain uses interprets the data instead of really see the picture. If our brains just did a pixel by pixel scan, we would notice that the colors were the same. But no, our brains try to help us out and does what it thinks is correct and say "Nope, there different colors... you all are liars and don't know what you’re talking about... "

Must be a Windows based operating system up there..... Bad coding.

I read a book years ago called 'eye and brain, the phychology of seeing' I think the author was a doctor called Greggory. Absolutley fascinating the way we sort out movement, depth and colours. Sight is nothing short of a miracle, There isn't a computor built that could handle the input and give you 3d graphics like that. Brilliant.

I have always been fascinated by this sort of thing. I found another nifty site (http://www.bbc.co.uk/science/humanbody/body/interactives/senseschallenge/) in the same vein.

Of course, since it's from the BBC, they might have "sexed it up". :vimp:

I still don't believe it, using paper I blocked out teh image with the exception of the A and B squares, they were 2 different colors.

I don't think it is an Optical Illusion, but rather something that actually fools the PC. :D

Seriously though, they ARE not the same.

I am SO glad I wasn't drinking when I read this thread. I would have totally freaked out, I'm sure.

Here's another, Not really an illusion but dead clever. You have to print it and cut along the two lines so you have three pieces of paper. There are 14 Leprechauns (sp?) Swap the two top pieces over and now there's 15, Where'd he come from?
I've read the explanation, And it still don't make sense!!!
