Where's all the "Internets" that Busch alluded to in the second debate? Maybe if we could find all the extra internets things would run a lot faster!

I think Bush said something about making computers and the internet more available to people...

Except he said "internets", plural!

So?

So he made a simple mistake in the pressure of a live presidential debate, when he didn't have time to go back over what he said and correct any mistakes. You however, on an internet forum where you have the chance to read what you've written before posting, spelled the name of your president wrong. Heard the saying about glass houses? :D

everyone here is conservative, Rustynuts. while I found what you said kind of funny, you'll get a lot of crap for stuff like that

A typo while typing fast is a lot more explainable than BUSH's error (actually it was probably all the Busch beer in college!) He actually paused and emphasized "Internets". It wasn't a simple misspoken word, it was a sign of his idiocy. My apologies to the conservative rightwingers! I too claimed to be Republican, until this presidency happened. And it's not just Bush, it's the triumverate of him, Cheney, and MOSTLY Ass-croft that make my blood boil.

That's ok prime, we love you anyhow. :p

Rustynuts: ad hominem arguments do nothing to enhance one's credibility, even more so when they're ad hominem tu quoque arguments. And argumentum ad personam, which you just engaged in in your last post, doesn't accomplish anything for you either.

Technology and conservatism has a fairly discernable positive correlation.

Sorry, forgot my Latin after highschool.

No one may care, but Geeky is, in fact, correct in this instance. Nor is it anyone's place to judge what words people use.

It's my place, because I decided to, and I never said he wasn't correct, I just said it's ridiculous language to be using in an online off-topic forum, and no matter how strongly you defend it because you use the same type of ridiculous overly complicated babble, it doesn't make it any less ridiculous.

Yes. Being excessively rude, because you "<i>Decided to</i>" really does rationalize it!

EARTH TO CAMMAN

IT IS NOT YOUR PLACE TO JUDGE HOW OTHER PEOPLE TYPE.

It is neither ridiculous nor overly complicated; those are the accepted names for the arguments that rustynuts presented. Period.

OK... listen to me speak in public for a few minutes :skeptic:... make your decision.

...then I'll show you my exam grades from a couple weeks ago. :D

There is no correlation between intelligence and speaking ability. You'll find this with a lot of people.

I've seen store employees with Downs have more awareness of parking lot safety than most of the normal high school/college age people.

And that would be a non sequitur. No one implied a link between intelligence and speaking ability, especially since this is an internet forum so you can't really judge how people speak. However, there is a definate link between vocabulary and intelligence, not because a large vocabulary demonstrates a large intelligence, but because a large vocabulary nurtures a large intelligence. The words you use define how you think, people with a larger range of words logically have a larger range of thoughts.

The reason he is picking on his words is because Kerry is his man and he will do anything to bash Bush and make him look bad, when all Kerry has to do to look bad is to show his elongated face.

Kerry or Bush I hate it when people try to score points on such silly crap.

Now if someone had a recording of "silly crap" and did some humorous editing, THAT would be a different story :D

And how much does proper spelling and grammar count? On the notion of vocabulary and intelligence, I beg to differ. My experience shows that people who use "50 cent words" are doing so to give the appearance of intelligence.

I would not consider my vocabulary vast, and I am far from a Churchillian public speaker, but I would not consider myself unintelligent. In my circles, the fewer words you use to convey your idea, the better. Anyone who starts throwing out "thuses" and "therefores" and "indubitablies" is trying to hide the fact that they're full of bullpoopie.

All of us have committed a gaffe here and there. We're not perfect. But to call someone an idiot for saying "internets" instead of "internet" is just plain silly. My friend says "Alvin Wrench" instead of "Allen Wrench." I would never call him an idiot, especially after he became 1 of over 300 applicants to fill 1 of 3 spots in the most prestigious orthodontic programs in the country.

Bush is not the most eloquent and articulate of speakers, so little fumbles like that are not uncommon for him. As far as Bush-isms go that was pretty mild. He probably meant to say "internet sites" and fumbled it a little.

I thought it was much funnier when he referred to John Kerry as John Kennedy :)

I will be honest with you, from outside the US the presidential election is just starting to look like 2 monkeys arguing over a banana. Both of them want it but are just not sure why. I am sure British politics looks just as bad from outside the UK, Tony Blair has failed the British public but there is no-one to replace him :(
