help with locking up

I have a machine with: 1900+, 512 pc3500, shuttle a35n ultra, 9200se Win XP pro. I installed OS no prob and config all drivers, when i do windows updates it freezes in the middle of doing them. So i have a sp2 disc i tried it and it hangs, direct x install hangs. Im running memtest now (last 20 min) but not getting any errors any clues what it could be? thanks guys in advance for the help :thumbsup:

copy the sp2 cd to your drive and run the install from there... see if you have any issues..

still does same thing, and no errors from memtest

im trying chkdsk /repair now

yup thats seemed to work it said multiple corrupt files and had to do the tail end of the install again, installing sp2 and its working fine. Thanks gobbles for the help
