Right now I have a GF4 mx 64mb and I am playing NFSU2. The graphics are HORRIBLE.


And so I've been thinking of getting a new video card the radeon 9550. Will this perform good for this??

IMHO, if you can wait, get a 9600 or a 9800. It'll perform better but it still is gonna run like crap on other games. You could also try searching for a used 9700.

Dude. I played NFSU on my parents' computer before I built my own. 256 ram, 1.4 Willy, gf2 440. *I* thought it was awesome. Then I built my own computer (9800 pro, not amazing, but great card nonetheless). Just wait till you buy a new card - you'll be FLOORED :D.

I wouldn't recommend the 9550, though. Like BH said, 9800 or 9700 pro... 9600xt if you really need to pinch your coppers. Don't go lower; you'll regret it.

(On a side note: NFSU 2 ROCKS! I love this game :D)

As long as you make sure it's 256-bit, and not 128-bit. Just so you know, 128-bit and 128MB are NOT the same. 128-bit is like a castrated 9800 pro. If it's 256-bit, 128MB, then go for it. Might want a second opinion, but that seems like a pretty good deal.

(Online, a 9800 pro will run you about $180-$200, so they ARE overcharging quite a bit. But with that 'free' money you have, it might still be a good deal.)

with GF4 Ti4200, the graphics can be run medium high with minor choppiness in congested areas. i run medium to ensure easy flowing gameplay, and it still looks awesome. BTW... anyone know which race unlocks the Infiniti G35?? thnx :D

I just finished the game and it's looking pretty good i must say. It's a little easier than the first, but the gameplay is much better with all the extra tweaks you can do to the car. The only car you are going to need is the RX-7. When tuned properly, it beats every other car in the game.

I used the RSX in the original and the Hyundai Tiburon in this one. One thing I can't understand is how I left so many races unfinished yet still won. Also, I have a ton of items still unlocked. What gives? :(

I ended up on 70% completion when i finished the game. I have no idea where the rest is. Have you found all shops? Finding shop unlocks more parts etc.
I think that you might have beaten that guy before you took on the other races.

I took on at least 25 guys on the street and won them all. Still at 70% =/
I won 155 out of 161 races so the record is near perfect. The remaining 3/10 of the game is a mystery....

You're SAVING to get a new car?? :confused: Didn't someone else just say this game was easier than the first? In the first game I NEVER had to save to get a new car, money came way too easily. In all te time I've played NFSU money was never an object.

I found where the rest of the races are finally...it must be some sort of bug in the game. Go back to the garage (just hit esc and choose garage), show map and toggle between the levels. To the left there is a dot for every race that either are completed or not. I actually found a few from the first level. lol. And lots of races in the remaining 4 levels. They have never showed up on the in-game map at all. Weird.

fyi, press "t" on your keyboard when in explorer mode to find your stats...

and to find all the shops,etc... look for the different colored street-lights when in explorer mode. also a lot of them are found in little dead ends--so look for them on the mini map.

It says i have found everything except one shop in city center area, but i have found it plenty of times. However there isn't a floating icon like all the other shops. I can drive into the light and it will make the noise to enter, so i do--but nothing is unlocked and it won't show up on my map at all.

where's the patch EA???

also it is a pain to check the world map and scroll through each race, but that is what you have to do to find them all.

This game can hardly be a finished product it seems...i mean, finishing the game at 70% completion? How fun is it to race against level 1 cars when you have a fully tuned RX-7? This destroys a otherwise great game. I have all the shops on the map, but i can't for the life of me unlock the wide body kits and the summary says that everything is unlocked =/
Only 5 races left now though.

I take it that you have to do the races in the exact right order. If somebody calls and says its a race at the airport, you have to go there immediatly. I ignored the stars on the map and concentrated on the races and took the stars when i was in the neighbourhood. Shouldn't have done that..all of a sudden a star dissapeared and i can't get it back. Pisses me of to no end when everything else is completed totally. Tremendously gutted about that.

Did I mention that whoever was in charge of the drift physics engine for this game needs to be burned at the stake? :). DAMNIT! I mean, in Underground 1, I drove a Miata. Wooped everyone's ass. I could drift, especially, like nobody's business. Enter Underground 2. MY CAR, ALREADY TWICE THE WEIGHT OF A MIATA, SUDDENLY DRIVES LIKE IT'S ON THE MOON. Boo to that, those stupid whores ;D. Honestly, I expect my car to handle ONE WAY, the SAME way, ALL THE TIME. If you don't know what I'm talking about, wait till you find the downhill-drag race. It's unreal. And on that course the game blips everytime your sliding car changes the directions it's drifting in. Definitely needs work, all around...

One of the thing that annoys me about the game is that you can win any race even with the crappiest car. Just buy all the parts and it drives faster than a Skyline. Bah. As for the 70% completion, there's also hidden races, guys on the street. If you win against some cars, they give you unique parts. I'm only at around 35% but that's cause I started over again. Races were pretty easy at first but are getting a bit harder.

I have been into the shops and looked but i still can't get the last part, the wide body kits. Maybe there isn't any wide body part for the RX-7 since it's already full on 10 stars?

I'm kinda stumped on the unique parts too cause sometimes, I beat the same guy twice on he gives me a unique part. Other times I could beat the same guy five times and nothing. I could have to do something with the guy on the phone saying were the good races are. I'll have to check that out. I'm at 47% and just unlocked the 4th part of the city so I really haven't seen (or raced for that matter) eveything. There's always races around that aren't on the map. Some are hidden.

ive only unlocked one unique, a split hood, and i have done many many hidden races. and downhill drifting is good because the scores are outrageous and it gives u more of a motive to go and pump out more points than the guy in first..

but its true that u can beat the game with any car :shakehead which blows b/c in NFSU at some point u would have to trade in ur civic cuz it just cant handle the races anymore...

I've come across the same thing so far, but I've picked up 3 uniques from the outrun races. Any car is good, even the SUVs. The one thing with the SUVs is it adds SUV-only races, which IMO is really stupid. It's just a circuit race with SUVs. What's the point? :scratch: At least do offroad or something.

Mackanz, wide-body kits only opened up for me in quick race mode on "beating" the game, but all the engine upgrades did not unlock. WTF? Something's just not right here.

I tried as many as 70 street races..no dice. I went into the quick race mode and i could choose it there though, but not move it on to the car(s) on the career mode.
One thing i like in the quick race mod is that you can choose any car you like, tune it to perfection and try it out there in a quick race. When you find which car suits you best, just buy it in the career mode and use it.

One thing i noticed the other day..don't just install the extreme packages when you unlock them..install parts individually as well. Some parts are owned but not installed and the game tells you if you need the part or not when you try to install them. It really helped the performance on my cars at least.

yes mackanz is right after u unlock transmission lvl 3 and install it, it automatically removed a part from package 2 which added about 7 mph to my top speed. i think they (EA Games) do this on purpose to keep us on top of our cars to maximize performance... they arent just handing it to us :)

Ok i have just bought myself a copy of nfsu2 installed etc, but when i play the game i see nothing but the street lights and the lights off the other cars....the rest is all black. i am playing the game in default settings and have a 9800 pro gfx card with 4.6 catalyst beta drivers, a pentium 3.0

I initially had the same problem and it had to do with a video detail setting option (the one below where you choose the resolution). I updated my drivers and it seemed to work well.

I have a problem as well.... I'm only just starting out in this game, and when I go to the place for the first drift race, after the cinematic I get kicked straight to the desktop. Do not pass go, just go straight to jail!

...It tells me there was an error blah blah report to Microsoft. I've tried reinstalling and even rebooting! :eek: Haha that doesn't happen very often as I fold 24/7. :D

EDIT: Also, the game can ONLY start in safe mode. I can put the settings as high as I like once the game's up, though. But I have to do I EVERY time I start the game! :mad:
I get the same windows error report crap when I try to start it normally.

yes i figured out the problem too... if anyone's in the same boat, all u have to do is:

1) open game status screen
2) scroll to the last page (right) and it will list a bunch of "objectives" for the region that u are in.. eg: mag covers, DVD covers...
3) accomplish these goals (usually build X star car)
4) one last URL will open up; win the race to move on to the next region.

i think EA should make this more clear.. as it took me about 2 hrs driving around looking for some hidden races that i may have missed.. it turns out all i needed was to make my 5.87 star car a 6+ star car and i would unlock the final dvd of level 4, thus allowing me to win the final URL and move on to lvl 5.

You probably need to get your car up to a certain star rating for a picture to be taken. That's happened to me only once so far, I had nothing to do and was utterly confused, so I went and spent money on my car and after pulling out of the garage was givin a notification that I needed to appear on a DVD. *Shrug* hope that solves your problem.

I think the game is clear enough on the objectives. The girl clearly stated (twice, actually) that you need to build a 6 star car to appear on a dvd cover.

I like the game so far, and it couldn't be going any smoother. OTOH, my computer is being pretty retarded with this game. It will keep kicking me to the desktop shortly after a cinematic intro, I have to keep trying until it lets me in. I don't know how to fix this. I've tried everything short or reformatting. :mad:

No clue. When I did the last URL races, one appeared close to me and I raced it and won the game. Since you're at 65%, my guess is that you need something else. Did you do what TheGr81 suggested and build a car with a higher star rating?

Does anyone know how to make your car do the worm ( :D ) outside of the specialties shop? I unlocked level 3 hydraulics.

I got a few new cars, but I'v only patially upgraded the Mustang GT. Performance only, couldn't afford the other stuff. I'm gonna stick to my A3 though because it my original car! (Orginal ass kicker, that is, the Corolla SUCKED!!) I honestly don't know how I'm gonna get the money to mod these cars out. I put over 50k under the hood of that Mustang and I'm still not done. That's just for performance. I'm anxious to see how the SUV will do. And I'd hate to see how much I spent on my Audi. :vimp:

This seems to be a little late, but the problem with the screen being all black except for like the menus and lights and stuff has to do with FSAA. Disable FSAA and it works fine. It only happens on ATi cards in my experience.

not if u have 4 modded cars.. plus outrun races would be a great source of cash if they didnt run out.. after a while u cant race outrun no more till u advance to the next level. but i suggest u do them anyways to get the uniques.

as for money.. u should have managed ur funds better instead of spending thous on 4 different cars.

Hey, did anybody got a very weird bug at some point in the game? I installed the game and after an hour or so of playing I was hardly able to turn left or right. I thought my keyboard might be doing something, but no. After, I changed a few settings (don't remember which exactly) including the Stability Control to "Off" and the game ran fine for a long time. Just now I got the same annoying steer lock. If I press the steering once nothing happens. If I press several times it turns a bit. It's really annoying. It might have to do something with the graphics engine, cause I changed the video settings to high and to medium detail. But when I changed them back the problem was still there. I have v1.1. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

lol... i had the same problem bro, except with the steering wheel. i couldnt turn left or right, but all i had to do was unplug and replug the wheel. i dont know how else to help.. other than asking u if u installed the v1.1 patch? cuz this might be a bug that they have already fixed.

Oh, I don't have a steering wheel. It's just that I couldn't turn left or right with my keyboard. I have version 1.1 and the bug is still there.

I have noticed a similar problem, but i have a ps2 controller hooked up through a usb adapter.

The analog stick works perfectly fine in all directions, but the directional pad doesn't want to turn left or right unless you press it 2-3 times. However, if i turn off the analog sticks, the directional pad will work normally.

Well I changed my video card to ATI Radeon 9200SE and it's cool now. And the graphics is much better. I guess it might be some kind of bug that is present at some GeForce cards. I think both PS2 and Xbox use it.

Well, I hate to bring it again, but it seems that even with the new card I have a problem. I didn't have it for some time, but after a bit of playing it started and it's been like that ever since. I changed the keyboard just to make sure. It doesn't make a difference if the KB is USB or PS2. Same thing. And it's not a bug in nVidia. EA should really fix that annoying bug. But I don't even know what's wrong. I have the latest ATI Catalyst, the latest DirectX, WinXP SP2 with all updates, NFSU2 1.1. I am running an AMD 2200+ with Soltek SL75DRV5 Motherboard. That's the only game that does that problem. But me wanna play :bawling: me wanna fix :(

I'm definitely an ametuer at this kind of tuning, so if I don't know what I'm talking about, I probably don't. :hiding:

I noticed that as my Audi A3 got faster and faster (with normal AND unique performance upgrades), I had to deliberately NOT get a perfect shift from the starting line (in drag races) or else during first gear it would stay up in the red zone. (from 8-9k rpm) That hurt my speed quite a bit as I was NEVER able to get a perfect shift from first to second gear, and that's quite important IMO. After some trial and error tuning, I found that tuning the gear ratio in the transmission for FIRST gear to top speed more than acceleration fixed that up nicely. While the A3 isn't really that great at drag racing, it did help out a LOT.

Basically, if your car is taking too short a time to go from one gear to the next, you may try changing it a bit in the transmission to top speed. If it takes too long to get to the next gear you may try changing it more in favor of acceleration.

But be careful, because changing one thing interferes with the next. If you reduce the speed required for a perfect shift in third gear, your car will have to make up for the difference in fourth.

Ok I have completed NFS:U2 a few times now, think I have some form of answers for a few things.

The message people get at the end of the game from Rachel about giving her green 350Z back, you are meant to get this at the beginning of the game when you have her car. When you first get it, it says go straight to her at the car lot, there is a sprint race, and a circuit race availble on the map though. If you do these races before you give the car back to her, you get the message.

The widebody kits. This, like some of the special set alloys and special spoiler, is a special part. When you win 11 out runs in level/stage 5 you get offered the widebody kit. The option is there in the Body Shops all the time because it has to be there if it is to ever be used, kind of lazy coding by the writters to make it only appear when applicable but, you can see why its always there. If you go in there with a car with the widebody kit on it, its not locked, you can go in and choose to take it off again, thats it though. In quick race made, all the wide body kits are availble, and so are all the spoilers you only get a choice of one of as a reward from an outrun.

Not got 100% and your complete/ low on money:
Go into your garage and check out the World Map, should be second icon in from the start. Here shows all the races from all previous stages. When you race Caleb at the end this will unlock stage 5 here. If you go through here, you can race every race, even SUV ones with what ever car you choose, and you will get 100% when you have done them all.
Now, heres a little money trick, I dont know if this works on consoles, but it does on PC. Start a race, and then pause and restart. This changes the mode that the game plays the race in, now you will get the money for winning the race, and the rep points. This only works for races that are Not Complete, and only works once.
If your out of money, you really didnt use it that well, I have been able to have 5 complete tricked out cars, and still have some money over.

The downhill drifts - Dont know if anyone else had any trouble with these to start with, but I struggled a bit. Then, I found the Audi TT. Once you are used to its handling it becomes almighty in the drift. If you hit the dyno, tune the ECU and Turbo full up on the high revs then it gives out 45-50bhp more too.

Hoods - 4 wins in stage 2
Performance choice - 3 wins in stage 3
Rims - 6 wins in stage 3
Spoiler - 4 wins in stage 4
Vinyl - 6 wins in stage 4
Performance choice - 9 wins in stage 4
Performance choice - 6 wins in stage 5
Widebody kit - 11 wins in stage 5

if you complete for example 6 wins in stage 3, youll get the star, and you MUST get the unique before stage 4 or the star will go away... (sry if this is already answered elsewhere :thumbsup: !!!)

Ive finished the race where i play 1v1 against Caleb. That was easy, but the thing confusing is where i actually get the wide body kits. What you mean by 11 wins and in Stage 5, is that 11 wins around the whole Bayview or just in Coal Harbour East or West?

You need 11 outrun wins. There's no location requirement.

that is correct. each stage has a number of street racers 8didnt memorize them!), and they will disappear after some races (u better win them all! - highway is the best way to beat them, just change lanes and they'll crahs often!!!)

widebody kits - winning 11 streetraces in stage 5 gives u the choice to obtain ONE kit... when u finish the game you'll get the rest!

dude, forget it!!! when you finish the game, go to the garage, there you enter the "world map" and you can complete all the races till u have 100% completed career!!!

ps - when you enter the race, hit restart, or you wont receive the money!!! ;)
