View Full Version : A SHORT lesson on Atoms?
I want to do something in 3D that involves "fusion", like a 3D model of it happening. But I am not entirely sure what an atom looks like. I know there are a bunch of components; like Electrons, Protons, Neutrons, Quarks, the Nucleus.... what have you. I know electrons orbit the nucleus; which contains the protons and neutrons. All of which break down even smaller into quarks, if memory serves me correct there are three quarks to a proton and neutron.
Highschool sucked.
lol, anyways, if someone could help me out here, I'd apreciate it. I'd further appreciate it if it wasn't given by a professor in lecture form. I confuse easily :D

And whatever you do, don't even start reading about string theory :D
Prime, you just reminded me I had a book, THAT I READ.... The Universe in a Nutshell, gotta go find it and see if it can tell me.

Doesn't get much easier than that. The starting group of two atoms is deuterium, the starting group of three is tritium. The final group of 4 is Helium, and the single atom is an errant neutron.

you should read "Beyond Einstien" ... its an awsome book about the superstring theroy thats in almost plain words... heck i even understood most of it ;D

The best superstring book I've found so far is Brian Greene's "The Elegant Universe".
Totally got me excited. I almost want to change my whole life and go to school to become a physicist.

I saw The Elegant Universe on TV. That show is what got me more interested than ever in physics, which I think I want to major in.

Totally agree. Every time I read things about quantum mechanics, man.. I just get excited and my brain goes a mile a minute. I would seriously try to be a physicist if I was any good at math. Quantum physics is just AMAZING stuff.. It's SO cool. :(
