I have a 6-in-1 reader (with 2 usb ports, by Dazzle) with an internal usb connector. However, I don't have a usb header connection on my motherboard. I'm thinking, therefore, to attach it to an external usb port. I tried such a connection wired straight through, but it doesn't work: the system doesn't see anything attached to the usb port. I'm guessing that like a serial connection, I need to cross the data signals. Is this right? Is there any reason why this approach won't work? (I'm talking usb 1.1)
Thanks.

Try this page:

I don't think you need to reverse any wires, maybe just double check that you have the wires as per the tables there.

Hello Dexter,

Thanks for the reply. I checked the wiring. However, it still does not work. There is what I take to be a power indicator which does not light up. I tried plugging it into a powered hub just in case power was an issue, but same result. I'm seeing cheap readers with external usbs at Fry's -- guess that's how I'll go. However, I'd still be interested in any further thoughts.

Thanks,
Bob
