Hey Macaholic, how much of your 157+ GHz of folding power is Macs and how much is x86 machines? In my field of business there isn't too much use for them because of compatibility with the programs being used in the oilfield. Plus the fact that the only place you can get a machine to run OSX is from Apple; I swore off proprietary computer equipment when I decided to get away from my old Amiga 500 back in 94' and swore then I would never buy another machine that locked me into a sole-source supplier of either hardware or software on any new computer purchase. ;)

Nice forum here, seems like you guys have a great attitude and a similar sense of humor as many of us at Team Mac OS X.

And yes, we have Win and Linux boxes on the team, just not enough of those quality Macs to go around

I personally use Macs in my business for both workstations and servers, I just got tired of all the virus', spyware, adware, trojans, etc. in the Win world. I lost all patience with having to constantly update virus defs, system patches, etc., since I have to do it all myself. I do use Dell Dual Xeon's for a couple of folding boxen, along with an assortment of Dual P3 and Single P4 servers we used to use before we replaced them with the Mac servers.

We at Team MacOS X look forward to a good fight in the Octagon, on the way to folding on for the cures!

Thanks guys,
J.R.

...We at Team MacOS X look forward to a good fight in the Octagon, on the way to folding on for the cures...
That's what makes it all worthwhile. One of the most overused cliches in sports is "there are no losers in a game like this - only winners". Folding is an area of competition where that saying is actually true.

If you guys do manage to pass us, it won't be because we layed down and rolled over. We'll be working as hard as we can to increase production right up to the bitter end - and after, should it come to that. It will be two good teams going full-steam, something which benefits us all.

Personally, I hope your team doubles its output. That way when we look back at you we'll know that we held our position through merit by staving off a ferocious effort. :fold:

It's nice to hear from some kindred spirits on the other side.

support people would have personal lives.

software developers trying to defeat adware/spyware/virus would be out of work.

the turkies who develop adware/spyware/virus code would have to go out and get real jobs.

Teletubbies would not have their own home page on XP.

iPods would be even more popular than they already are.

Steve Jobs would be the richest man in the world.

all names for folding teams would contain the word Mac.

life would be sooooo SWEET !!! :D

Luv you guys, bring the pain :o But be careful of flying debris as we blow by. Stomp on the pedal on the right, we love a good drag race.

An ex PC user takes his Mac back to the store and is greeted by a well-dressed, cologned, well-groomed trendy neo-hippy.

"Sir, this Mac doesn't work. I can't do anything with it."

<i>"That's an obvious irrelevancy. Don't you see how pretty it is? Observe its prettiness. Does not its highly-polished exterior call to your soul like a gull upon the breeze? Note the beauty of its large display, see how it caresses your spirit and tickles your senses! Do not these tiny but elegant speakers seem beautiful?</i>"

"I can't do anything with it... Games? Maybe, maybe not, probably slowly. Oh, oh.. I can run Final Cut but I don't do video editing."

<i>"See how pretty it is? Mac users are wealthy, educated, and liberal people! They support progressivism in all facets of intelligence! They are creative, beautiful, trendy, desirable people! Don't you want to be a creative, beautiful, trendy and desirable person?"</i>

"I CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITH IT. NO DIRECTX, IT'S SLOWER THAN MY PC AND 120% MORE IN PRICE."

<i>"Well, this benchmark from 1996 shows Photoshop to be faster. Oh, and we're the first supercomputer in the world, and.. 128 bit architecture!"</i>

"I have contemporary benchmarks that prove you wrong, no you're not, and nobody cares."

<i>"Well you just give me that pretty Mac back. It's obvious you're an uncreative, ugly, untrendy, undesirable stupidhead... You go play your faster PC that you paid less for. You'll be economically smart, but you'll never be PRETTY! PRETTY LIKE THE G5! YOU IDIOT!"</i>

The trendy, well-groomed man sips his $12 cup of coffee and will leave for home at the end of the day in a lexus to continue his painting in his loft apartment overlooking a large and artistically-rich metropolitan area.

But, they're NTO DESKTOP COMPUATRS THEY AER SUPERCOMPUTERS PRIMOSUSPECHOSO (REAL MAC USERS KNOW OTHER LANGUAGES BECAUSE WE'RE SMRT)

By the way, I've taken the liberty of issuing necessary corrections to this post:

If everyone used Macs,........

Support would migrate to people being paid to tell others why the Mac can't do (insert hardware-intensive task here)

Spyware/adware/virus protectionists would remain, as virus/malware ingenuity is focused on that which does the most damage. If Macs became the mainstream, they'd be the main target.

Teletubbies would still have their own homepage; the contract would be redirected to Jobs and Co. which needs every dollar they can grasp.

iPods would be even more popular than they already are.

Steve Jobs would be the richest man in the world, having effectively made a fortune off of a product that does vastly less than it advertises.

Folding efficiency would fall in the ****ter.

life would be sooooo DIM AND TERRIBLE !!!

Love you. Hate your computers.

But, even diehard PC users gotta admit, the new iMac 20" G5 is a pretty sweet machine, both for performance, engineering, and style (dare I mention that). I don't think there are many PC manufacturers that could build a computer like that.

Just wish I had one, guess I'll have to stick with the Dual G5 for now :D

Actually, the Dell Precision 450 Workstations we use, with Dual Xeon 2.8 procs, are pretty sweet desktops. For a PC, that is. :p

We did a financial analysis, and the extra money we pay for Macs is more than made up in less than 18 months in time savings for support, upgrades, and software we don't need to license and pay annual fees in order to fight off the bad side if Windows - virus, adware, spyware, Trojans, and other malicious forms of time wasting malware. Unix and Linux just cost less to maintain.

Enjoy the spyware and adware! hehehe

The quality engineering at Apple stops at their sleek designs. Their CPUs run hot, they're woefully overpriced, underperforming by a similar margin.

Technologically, Apple is behind -- I'm a large proponent of price/performance, or performance/megaherz.. But on both fronts, it's a race Apple loses nigh on universally.. Since I care very little for Apple's idea of style, my appreciation for them effectively stops at the iPod.

But for the sake of argument, you speak of spyware/adware/viruses etc.. I've been using a Windows-based PC for 13 years now.

Viruses? Zero.
Spyware? None.
Adware? None.

Susceptibility is only as broad as the user is astute.
