The latest update to HL2 that was autopushed through steam caused my game to look totally pixelated (as if seen from a poor quality digital camera pixelation effect). I've done system restore and attempted to update drivers, but neither worked and the updated drivers actually made things worse overall. Any ideas on what's going on? I'm running on 1.4 ghz with an ATI Radeon 9600.
What are the texture settings and game resolution?
Could you post a screenshot?

Please post game res and settings, and if you push that video card or CPU too far, you will get video dropouts. Bad RAM also can cause this, the computer uses main RAM for extra workspace if the video card needs it and BIOS allows that. I've also had monitors overheat and get power supply circuit problems, and that can induce video noise which can be pixelation or white noise. Push a monitor too far, and the monitor can gradually die.

Guys, thanks so much for the replies. I'm using an lcd monitor and changing from digital output to analog output resolved the issue. I have no clue why since it was working fine before, but I'm not too concerned either. The screenshots looked normal when I exited the game, so that was why I didn't include one. Again, thanks a lot and hopefully at some point I'll be able to return the favor.

if u have the se they cranked up the texture compression
btw they also cut the draw distence in half :( because ppl that couldnt go turn there agp apature size down and enter the ram timings manualy were complaning about lag when entering a new room
REMEMBER PPL 1/4 THE size of ur ram for agp apature size

One thing you may want to try is turning off the 'Temporal Anti-Aliasing' in your graphic setting. This can cause some major pixelation if the frame rate drops too low.
