Rig is in the signature.

Let my friend borrow the SLK-900 to test it out, so I've only got the stock cooler.

Installed it (with just the normal thermal pad) and am running the system at all default clocks & voltages (200 FSB, 12 multiplier, 66 AGP, 33 PCI).

BIOS @ startup says temps are as follows at idle:

Case: 31*C
CPU: 40*C

Within Windows XP, MBM & Asus Probe both show the following temps @ idle:

Case: 31*C
CPU: 88*C

Is this a case of a f**ked temp sensor, or is the software installed (MBM & Asus Probe) just screwed up? I don't want to do any damage to the system, so I'm not going to O/C for the time being, but it would ease my mind knowing if there is actually a problem.

I've tried changing which sensors the CPU temp probe reads, but it comes up with one of the following: 88*C, -48*C or 31*C (31 being case temp).

I've checked for adequate cooler contact, and everything checks out.

Thanks in advance guys!

well for starters, you can't run ASUS Probe and MBM on the same system easily... it can be done, and I've done it before, but they tend to phuck around with each other. Uninstall PCProbe and see what taht does.

Geeky is the man :D

Blasted MBM 5.3.3.0 just needed to take a hike from my system and everything is back to normal. :)

Thanks for the emergency help. I no longer have to worry about space-heating this room with a 90*C CPU :D

It's running at a comfortable 34*C idle. :D
Excellent.

Thanks again :D

NP, but personally I'd recommend mbm over pcprobe. I've had far, far more problems with ASUS's software than I have with MBM (actually, I've had more problems with every piece of monitoring software included by ASUS, MSI, DFI, and ABIT than I have had with MBM...)
