View Full Version : Format a hard drive in Knoppix 3.6?

I'm building a new computer (Abit BP6 dual CPU), and the hard drive (I've tried 2, actually) has lots of problems. Like not allowing me to install any operating system I have or format it. It keeps saying it's missing the <Windows Root>\system32\hal.dll file.

Norton Disk Doctor doesn't find any errors, but the hard drive refuses to cooperate.

I finally got it running with a bootable CD of Knoppix 3.6, but I couldn't find the commands to make the hard drive (set as IDE slave) format to give me a fresh start with it.

Anyone know how to do this?

here's how to do it in fedora, and I assume that knoppix has fdisk and mkfs, so you should be able to follow this.
