Stave49 Desperate Old Fart!undefinedundefined[LEFT]
So far I have built 3 systems one for my son with a LAN PARTY MB, ANOTHER GIGA-BYTE 7N400 PRO 2 MB and the last one with a GIGA-BYTE 7NNXP MB I had few problems with any of the 3 and had no problems getting them to boot the first time.
This one is a replacemnt board for the GA 7NNXP MB and I guess I choose wrong. can anyone help with a prolem that says wrong CMOS on post screen? I tried following the instuctions in the manual only to find out that after changing the JP5 Jumper settings I can't boot at all. The computer acts completely dead after changing the ping settings from pin3 - pin2 to pin 2 - pin one. I emailed Soyo tech support but still no response. Pleas help if you can. Thanks

well usually when u switch the cmos jumper and turn it on it isnt supposed to do anything untill you set the jumper to defualt, this si the "clear the cmos" technique
you mena to say that the screena ctually says wrong cmos?

Once you switch the clear cmos jumper, the process is you turn the power on and nothing happens, then you put the jumper back in its original position and hit the power. At this point the computer will turn on and will either work or will not. If it doesnt you may need to update the BIOS, although that doesn't seem right. Possibly something is faulty. Lets see what happens when you put the jumper back first htough :)

Thanks for answering my post,
I have Athalon XP 2700 2gb pc3200 Radeon ATI card aldso. I changed the IDE0 and IDE1 cable postions on the mb I thought I had it when the CD-R in the CS postion same with the DVD-RW,both showed and I was able to insert the XP PRO disk until I found out that MASTER and SLAVE DRIVES IDE was not posting. I can chage the ide cables back and then I have a hard drive and no CD drives. Then there obviously was no HD to install XP on or vise versa. Any ideas on where I can go from here? You seem to be my only hope. My Brother is a programer but unfamiliar with building PCs and too busy to help. My brother in law in Spain is a Microsoft Certified Lazy ass who hasn't bothered to get back to me either. I installed this damn thing 2 weeks ago and been chasing my tail ever since until today when you answered my post. :( :scratch :banghead:

So it appears the cmos problem is no more?
The master and slave positions on the IDE cables will only cause a drive to become master or slave if the jumper on the back of the drive is set to cable select. If you want to use the cables to define weather a drive is master or slave, make sure all the jumpers are set to cable select first.
The hard drive that you want to boot off of must be on IDE 0 and set to MASTER. Here is a good game plan, disconnect all drives but the hard drive you want to boot with. Boto with jsut that, make sure it works. If all is good, add the slave to that cable. Boot, if all is well, start on IDE 1, one drive at a time.

Once we have the drives set and working, we can go into BIOS and set your computer's boot order with CDROM first. Then you can boot off the WinXP cd you have and format, instlal, or whatever you like.

You should have this:
You have one hdd. It is jumpered as master and it is connected to the end of a cable connected to ide0.
You have one cd drive. It is jumpered as master and it is connected to the end of a cable connected to ide1.
You are sure that they are the correct cables? You didn't use an old cable on the hdd or mix them up did you?
Can you get into the bios? Is it looking the correct places for drives.
Has the hdd be formatted? If not boot to a floppy and format it.
Dmb question but... Are the drives hooked up to the power supply? Do the drives spin up at all?

As far as I am concerned helping people here is just like my 5 years of helpdesk working for ISPs, and other tech places. If a customer ever flipped on me, I would kindly ask them to hold and let them speak to my manager. Or when I got higher up in the ranks, make my own judgement and choose wether to help or just release the call when a customer would flip out on me due to their own frustration with themselves and their problem.
The difference between my old jobs and this, is all of us are here to help you out of our own will ... for free! Had I thought to ask you to double check to see if the power was in, I would have!
The point is this call is released as far as I am concerned. Good luck with your frustration sir.
