View Full Version : Name that car!
Let's play a game, shall we? :D
Here's the way it works:
Someone posts a collage of pics of parts of a certain make/model of car (you can use more than one subject, as long as they're all the same make/model), and then everyone tries to guess what it is. The next pic is posted when either a. someone guesses the right car to the previous one or b. a reasonable amount of time has passed with no correct guesses (post the answer in this case)
First one guys, have at it:

my vote is M6
and that is def an expedition
Rot Katze got teh beemer. It's a 6 series; in this case, a 1988 635CSi. The M6/M635CSi (the euro version of the M6) are some of my favoritest BMWs of all time.

Well gee, I figured that since I've known about 'em for years, SOMEONE else has gotta know about them... :D
As for Parisian motorcars... that Facel and the Clio with the twin turbo V6 or whatever are probably the only decent things with 4 wheels that have ever been made in France. Although the Citroen DS is neat in an exceedingly odd sort of way.

Nope, the Clio V6 is an overpriced lump of ****e, the 172 Sport is much better. The Renault 5 Bi-Turbo, now we're talking and the Peugeot 205 GTI was a fine car too as long as you could stop bits falling off. As for everything else.... urgh

Ok, Floppy, this one's for you only.
I expect you to get the make, the series/class/range/whateveryouliketocallit, chassis code, a range of possible years of production, and the destination market (if the parts were all off one car). And it'd be nice to have a list of the exact models it could possibly be. :D All from these pics. And yes, it can be done. :)

Ok, here's one for the rest of yas to keep you entertained in the meantime.
It's a fairly rare car, so I couldn't find many pics of it, but I KNOW there's at least one S-M member that probably will know instantly exactly what it is just from the 3 shots I managed to find. Since it is so rare tho, one of the shots is an uncropped interior shot. Enjoy.

Floppy, you are hereby informed that you are no longer allowed to purchase, own, or drive Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Please hand the keys to me and step away from the car. :p ;D
It's obviously a Mercedes; the taillights should give that away.
The ridged body cladding indicates that it's an early 1980s S class or a pre-1989 SL.
The headlights have fog lights next to them; only the sedans had this, so it has to be a SE/SEL
The decklid doesn't have chrome trim going across the entire length of the base, further evidence that it has to be a SE/SEL.
The headlights are obviously not the euro-spec headlights. Which leaves one other choice- U.S. spec.
So, from those pictures, we've established that it's an:
early 1980s (pre 1986) Mercedes-Benz SE/SEL, and it's a U.S. spec car. The chassis code for those cars was W126, and being that it's a U.S. model made before 1986, it can only be a 300SE/SEL, 300SD/SDL, 380SEL or a 500SEL.
I figured since you drive a 280SE you'd get it right away. :p

That's what I had to tool arond in when I got my license. Just what the average 15 year old needs, a 4200 lb car that has 375 hp under the hood! That big car would surprise a lot of so-called hot cars of the time and had a hell of a top end too. With all the weight of that 455 over the driving wheels and positive traction, it came off the line real well with only about 3 feet of wheelspin and hook up hard. It would also bury the 140 mph speedometer with the greatest of ease. :D
Offhand, I don't know what year.

I first saw one in pictures about 2 years ago and was impressed with the styling. Even with the small V4 in it, it's a fun car to drive. Lately I've found you can build them up to 120hp without much fuss.
A buddy of mine and I got a 1972 Sonett III a few weeks ago and I spent Sat. removing the front end and doors. The whole front end is one big fiberglass piece that comes off when you remove 9 screws. With it off, it's easy to work on everything in the engine/transmission compartment.
