View Full Version : My home has been taken over...by Elmo
Okay, so I have 2 baby girls, one currently just shy of 22 months old, and the other just turned 8 months old.
They love Elmo.
They like all the Sesame Street characters, but Elmo is their superhero-god-monster.
We have Elmo videos on DVD and VHS, Elmo books, stuffed Elmos, Elmo stickers everywhere, even a plush Elmo kids chair. There are Elmo slippers, shirts, socks, and pajamas...my wife even has an Elmo nightshirt....
There are even Elmo Snacks. That's right, fruit flavoured gummy snacks featuring Elmo and all his Sesame Street friends...Oscar, Grover, Zoe, The Count, Big Bird, Ernie and Bert....
Heck, every time I turn on my computer, the XP welcome screen has an Elmo avatar for my olderst daughter's profile. She cannot use it yet, but we will sometimes log in that profile for her so she can see the big red Elmo on the black background desktop I made for her, as we open up the Sesame Street website and do Elmo activities online....
But I have to say this for the record: I actually like Elmo. He's cute. He's funny. The writers add just enough humour that flies over the heads of the kids and makes the parents laugh. Some of the other kids shows my girls enjoy are either annoying (Barney, Teletubbies) or bizarrely boring (anyone ever seen Boobah?) But I can actually sit and watch an Elmo video with them, for the 100th time, and still enjoy it.
Here are some pics of the girls watching an Elmo video they got for Christmas. My oldest is sitting on her plush Elmo chair, and I believe she is even wearing an Elmo t-shirt. (Note that kazillion handprints all over the door of the TV stand.... )
So, if any of you have a secret enjoyment of Elmo you would like to get off your chest, here is your chance to publicly profess your love for that furry little red monster who "loves his goldfish, and his crayons too...."
Dexter...
No ELMO affliction yet. Piper has not had much use of the TV and her blocks, chewable toys keep her busy...

Ahhhh.. I am about two years out of the sesame street phase, thankfully. But yes, elmo was a fixture in my household for about five years as well.

On a side note: Has anyone besides me noticed how creepy and false the babies on the huggies box look? The eyes..... Don't look at the eyes.....

No Elmo over here but we have a 6 inch talking(if you call it that) boohbah and the interactive CD. Boohbah would give me nightmares when i was a kid but my girl loves it. Hers is pink but her grandmother bought her a purple one for when she is staying with her. I know she is to young to know what it is but she just loves to see it bounce up and smiles when ever it goes boooooohbaaaaaaaa.
Am I the only one who's a little concerned that Booooohbaaaaa is teaching kids to say essentially...Boob....only with a new england accent. No? Ok.....fine....ya boooobaahhhs.

Boobah will create a whole generation of little Ted Kennedys.

Yeah, I wondered about that myself. The show is called Boohbah, but when they sing it at the begginning of the show, the pronounce it beeeeeeeee-baaaaaaaah. What's up with that? Is it boob or beeb? Seeing as the damn things are shaped liked boobs, I think boohbah is correct, but I have to stop myself from saying boobies....;D But, yeah, the boohbahs kind of creep me out, although their Flash website is really cool....http://pbskids.org/boohbah/boohbah.html Click the purple guy at the 2:00 position, and play with the music generator...very cool. (works better in IE than FF for some reason....)
When I put my eldest daughter to bed last night, she had 4 of the 5 mini sized boohbahs lined up along the edge of her bed, and she proceeded to grab them all and arrange them around her, then grabbed Elmo of course and snuggled up with him. Barney was on the other side of her...it was like a little slumber party.... :)

JESUS ****ING CHRIST! THEY'RE WALKING TITS! ;D ;D
JESUS ****ING CHRIST! THEY'RE WALKING TITS! ;D ;D
Well, technically, they are....
five colorful atoms of energy. Humbah, Zumbah, Zing Zing Zingbah, Jumbah, and Jingbah are powered by the laughter and joy of children they encounter all over the world.

If it looks like a boob, bounces like a boob... it's a boob. And they live in something called a "boohball"?! Is it just me, or does that sound a lot like "blueball"?
See, Elmo is so much cuter than those things....
Dexter...
I disagree. I like boobies. err... boohbahs... ;D
I have changed my Avatar to honour the hero that is Elmo, in the hopes that my daughters will worship me like they do him.... ;)

Good Luck with the avatar Dexter :D
My lil Cousin likes this guy and his friends...
Now, see where following some of the advertising links at the top of the page will get you....?

You call it slumber party ill call it ceremonial stuffed positioning. Slowly the boohbahs try to take her soul. kinda like wal-mart.

Sorry but now seems like the most appropriate time to ask this question...
What the hell is domo! Where did he come from? And why do I find thrax's av so amusing? ;D
Domo-Kun, roughly, means Mr. Thank you.
He's a Japanese cartoon thing, as well as a marketing tool.. He's everywhere. But we Americans, by in large, don't know (Or care.. I don't..) and find him downright cutely amusing in his sharp-toothed way.
And you find it amusing because a Domo in a Santa hat humping the googles out of a potato pancake.. Well, that's hilarious.
