My new little Kia I just got for a cheap car to leave at work without worrying about getting banged up while parked at work ended up being hit by a big dumptruck on the interstate on Monday. I got off work early due to weather on Monday and was on my way to run some errands so was headed into Austin on I-35 in the farthest right of 3 lanes when suddenly the big truck in the center lane next to me came crashing into my car without warning. Shortly after it hit, my car was spun sideways and flung infront of the truck while stillk going 65mph down the freeway. My car was then stuck sideways to the front of the speeding truck for the next half mile till he got stopped. The whole time my car was trying to roll over by being pushed sideways but somehow it managed to stay on 2 wheels according to witnesses. Why it took so long to stop is currently under investigation byn the police, be it overweight, bad brakes or both on the dump truck. Being a truck driver myself I know the truck that hit me was grossing at least 55,000 pounds while my poor little car only weighed in at a mere 2,300 pounds (not at all fair). While I know how lucky I am to be alive or at least not criticlly injured I am amazed at how well my chep little car did in such a wreck in protecting me. I am going to be off work for a while as I am not unscathed. I have some head trauma, back and neck injuries and a very hurting left shoulder, arm, hip and knee from the impact. In addition it felt like I was inside a jack-hammer while being pushed sideways.

The black circle is from the trucks tire when it first hit. The door was pushed well into my shoulder.

Damn dude, you were lucky not to get killed there! Sorry to hear of your injuries, but it sounds like you really came out light compared to what could have happened. I hope you get well soon, Larry. :)

Sorry to hear about the wreck. Glad you came out alive though, it could have been much worse. Take it easy and get some rest.

Glad to hear you're all right, your car survived amazingly well, when I read the thread title I was expecting portions of the car to be missing.

And to think my description possibly can't duplicate the intensity of the real thing.

Thanks for the wishes and support. At least i will finally have some time to visit here and play with my 'puter and pile of parts that has accumulated.

Wow man, I'm glad you're OK, hurting no doubts about it but still drawing breath nonetheless.

Wrecks suck.

Wow! Glad your okay!

I had a '98 Kia Sephia, and some large truck that was similar to a flat bed tow truck backed into the front of my car while we were waiting in the turn lane (why he decided to go in reverse, I don't know). He couldn't have been doing more than 5 mph, and it ended causing enough damage that the insurance company totalled my car. I was fine, since I wasn't moving. Anyway, my point is, I'm VERY surprised your car held up! That's insane, man. You're one lucky dude! :)

Glad to hear you're ok mtgoat, that's scary.

I got deja vu while reading that, my aunt, driving a Mazda Miata a few years back on the Queensway (3 lane highway), was hit by a garbage truck that was on it's way back to the landfill. Same thing, hit her on the side just like that and then whipped her around into the front of the truck and pushed along, she recieved minor injuries as well. You are both very lucky.

That is just unbelievable, Larry. So glad you fared rather well, all things considering.
Sure hope your injuries are only temporary and you get better soon.

Take care.

Glad you're not seriously hurt.... well, with the list of injuries that you did receive, sounds serious but you'll recover.
