View Full Version : Should be an interesting day tomorrow

I have been doing some small time work for a consulting firm in Denver and they asked me to stop by tomorrow morning to speak with the President of the company who will be arriving in town. They have offices in several places around the country.

Not sure what to make of it really? Not sure why they needed me to stop by.... but figure it can't be bad right? They don't specialize in what I do but I sorta get the feeling they need project maangers so it might be fun to meet him anyway. I am scarfing for more work right now so maybe it will pay off.

I like interesting guys and the President built his own company and sold it for big bucks before becoming President of this firm so he aint no dummy anyway. He is supposed to be on the Internet Chamber of Commerce among other things. Anyone have a clue about what they do exactly?

No clue what the ICC does, but I'm in the same boat with you. It never hurts to do meet and greets with importante people.

Good luck with that... I'd be a bit nervous myself, but then... I guess you're not worried about loosing some job or something. Plus the president wouldn't do that. So, wow, I wonder what they have in store for ya. Maybe they need some henchmen with nice new scopes :D

No there is no job to lose. And I am not nervous. Rather curious? And... I have played this game for almost 25 years and I am very good at what I do. I ran big departments at consulting firms as a lead analyst and project manager. This stuff is fun. I relish meetings like these like Thrax looks forward to dicing the next troll.

But just not sure what it holds. Wasnt looking for a full time gig. I thought I had made that known. Thats what I am afraid might be offered. I just do contract work these days. Thats what I do basicaly but.... I would like more steady contract stuff here in the mountains and I didnt have contacts here for this stuff like I did in Texas. So even declining a offer must be done in a positive way.

So this might be a special oppurtunity. Not sure on any other reason they would make a point of having me come from Colorado Spings to meet the president of a firm like this in Denver that had just flown in to town? Strange unless its for another reason. Usually I get the point but this time I don't so maybe ther eis nothing more then a quick meeting planned.

They have a TON of full time staff here and the firms specialty is not mine really so it seems weird unless they are anticipating expanding their focus a good deal.

Hey its fun to meet other talented people and share in the exchange. And I "clean up real good" as the ladies say. (grin)

I'm excited !

Well fill us in when you find out Tex ...heck may be an offer of some kind! Good luck!

More worried it might be an offer actually. I don't want a full time job. Havent done anything but contract or own my own company since the late 80's. This will piss others off perhaps but... Working 9-5 every day sorta turns my stomache. Been there and done that. helllll I worked 70 hour weeks a lot consulting before and I don't want to travel now either. Been there and did that for months at a time too. It ain't what its cracked up to be guys. Not even on a comfy expense account.

I guess if the offer was really strong but.. Wasnt what I wanted right now. I love the mountains and having time off to myself. I waited 12 years to get back to the mountains and it will suck with a full time job.

You guys saw pics of me in the boots and hat before right? Ok.....

I'll have Robin take a pic before I leave for the deal in the morning. You might be surprised how well I clean up when I want to. For god sakes I have $250 dress shoes to wear and I spend more on ties and socks then some do on suits.

Remember I did this crap with big consulting firms for years in full dress. Just don't want to do it every day anymore.

I realy don't think it's going to be an offer. They really have not worked with me enough yet. but for the same reason, why have me come in to meet this guy either? Doesnt add up unless its just a short "hello" deal and then why make me drive 50 miles each way for a ten minute deal to shake his hand and say "hi"?

I have done all my work remote to date. Or in meetings on the phone and email as I don't live in Denver so no one has seen me in person. Thats why its weird to have me drive in to meet the President shortly after he gets in town.

They'll probably make you an offer. If they do then you can ask to do most of it remotely (if its possible). It would seem that thay are really impressed with you and want their president to impress you. Don't worry too much about it.

Or the guy wants a date with you after seeing you in your "boots and hat".

Would be a drag to drive to denver each day. Its a little over an hour in morning traffic. Maybe once or twice a week but..... not every day.

Then again if I had to............ HEY ROBIN BABY !! I need some fancy new wheels to make the ride bearable babe...

LMAO

All my stuff anymore is 19" rackmount stuff. Thats a 3' tall 19" rack that holds my 8 port gigabit switch, one dual opteron in a 4U case and a 4u rack chassis wiwth scsi drive.

I got another 7 foot tall 19" rack with smoked glass dors and stuff.

Tex

PS. The president was hoping I would help administer their big ass network and I won't drive to denver to do that everyday.

It was fun though seeing everyone and matching faces to the voices on the phone. And of course I was the only guy dressed up. Everyone else was in jeans and tennis shoes even the president. (long sigh....)

Wish someone had told me...

How about a 12,000 foot tower on top of Pikes Peak and we go super wireless?

Or run a long piece of string and a couple tin cans on each end?

Tex

Gigabit switchs and nics are dirt cheap now unless you just wanted access to my pron collection

speaking of wireless ...I set 21 workstations on 11b connections downloading and installing AutoCAD 2005 FULL all at once from my remote desktop connection. The light was blinking so hard when I left I was worried I might go into seizures or something! ;D
