Hi,

I'm looking to buy a new Socket A M/B, I've had a look and the ABIT NF7-S2G seems like a good board. Any one else have any suggestions? I'd prefer to avoid Silicon Image on-board RAID though i had nothing but problems on my Gigabyte board with it! Seems the NF7-S2G uses Nvidia built in SATA RAID.

Cheers

The Abit NF7-S v2.0 is a great board and the problems with the Silicon Image on the Gigabyte is Gigabytes problems not the fault of Silicon Image.

I would avoid the NF7-S2G as it is no where near the board the NF7-S is. Although the NF7-S has the SI controller most people have not experienced many problems. I have had zero problems with the 3 that reside in my house. This said, I heartilly recomend the Abit NF7-S (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-127-166&depa=1) or the DFI LANPARTY NFII ULTRA B (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-136-138&depa=1).

I recommend the Asus A7N8X-E Deluxe.

Do you want to overclock? If so the Lanparty is the way to go.
My Abit NF7-S mobos have worked great.
I assume that you have a cpu, because you know that socket A cpus will go away real soon.

Thanks for the replies fellas, Yeah i think my Gigabyte board 7n400 Pro 2 has nearly had it. I was just going to swap the boards over and keep CPU, memory, Graphics card. I did think about going for a A64 but with the change over to PCI-E at the minute it would hit my wallet fairly hard with new CPU, memory, Graphics card to buy.

Mtgoat reecommendations are on the money!

Bear in mind though you can grab a Athlon 64 S939 3000+ & NF3-250GB (w AGP) combo for >$225 if you keep your eyes open.

I second (third?) mtgoat's recommendation: Abit NF7-S and the DFI LANParty ULTRA-B are ridiculously good.

I also go along 100% with mtgoat's recommendations. If you are looking for a cheaper board than the Abit or DFI boards, the Shuttle AN35N Ultra is also a very nice board, but doesn't have Soundstorm like the NF7-S does.

If price is an issue I would recomend theMSI K7N2 DELTA2-LSR (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-130-475&depa=1) in addition to and even slightly higher than the Shuttle AN35N-Ultra (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=13-150-045&depa=1) muddocktor mentioned. All of the boards mentioned so far are good suggestions with the NF7-S being my favorite as well as the best bang for your cash.

Another  for this advice. The Lan Party is great for overclocking and has lots of really nice features.

I'm using one with 2 x 35Gb Raptors in a RAID 0 - no probs, it runs well.
