Hey. Was installing software for new printer. On reboot all I got was spalsh Windows Me screen. The system will not progress from that point. Tried to re-boot in Safe Mode but when I select that option, it returns to the Windows Me screen.
Thought about pulling hard drive, putting it in an external hard drive case and try and pull off information and just reformat.
Any suggestions?

Have you pressed ESC at the splashie to see what's behind? Does the computer freeze (causing wierd noises when moving the mouse/typing on the keypad)?

Correction!
Retried hitting ESC when powering up.
Received the following on a black screen, "Please wait while Setup updates your configuration files. This may take a few minutes."
Has been like that for 5-10 minutes now.
Anybody?
Buller? :shakehead

Banged around some more ...
Now I'm getting " Windows could not upgrade the file %1 from %2 %1: %2 "
Can't follow instruction provided by Microsoft :
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb%3Ben-us%3Bq283069
because I can't get it to boot
However, even though it won't let me go into Safe Mode I think it will let me do a step-by-step configuration.
Out of my league on this one.

Thank you for your help! :D
Downloaded Me boot disk from downloads, got into DOS and ran scandisk. Taking forever but it appears that I have a bad cluster. Guessing that it only became apparent when I was tried to load new software and it was copied over that area.
