GIGABYTE and Adding a new MAXTOR SATA Driver (Seagate Drive SATA already installed)

I just got a new 300 Gig Maxtor SATA drive and installed into my PC. This is currently running SATA and has a 120 Gig Seagate running under the Silicon Image SATA Controller, All Non RAID.

The problem I got and cannot understand is that on boot-up the Maxtor gets regonisedas IDE Device and also that this has been installed under the Intel Ultra ATA Controller.

When I then go to reboot the machine the whole PC locks up when re-starting windows, and the Maxtor is no longer being shown as a drive. My Questions are.

1) How can I get the Maxtor to be rogonised as a SATA drive under the Silcon Image SATA Controller.

2) Is anyone else out with this problem, as when I find a solution I pass it on.

This is really buggin me now, as it just does not seem logically.

When you boot up, you should see a Silicon Image bios screen as well. Do the drive show up there as well as the Seagate?

It seems Odd, it looks like the SATA controller on the 8KNXP MB only has two channels so only my two 120 Gig Seagate get shown, I swapped the cables around and now get one 120 Gig being shown and the 300 Gig. The other 120 Gig is then shown up as a IDE channel Drive.

I still not sure why this happens, and this has also fixed the reboot issue. I hope this info helps someone, I still digging around and see what I can find.

So far I found this link, which kind of suggest that the Silicon SATA only supports two drives, so the other one gets run under the Intel one with the Hard Drive.
