Yesterday VIA began shipping its fastest embedded x86 chip, the Eden ESP7000.

The chip is clocked at 733MHz and is designed for fanless set-ups, including set-top boxes, point-of-sale terminals and thin clients. It is said to consume no more than 6W of power and typically only 1W. The chip is equipped with 64KB of L2 cache and offers support for Intel's SSE mulitmedia instructions.

Based on VIA's Nehemiah processor core, the ESP7000 features a hardware random number generator, the basis for VIA's PadLock data encryption system which the company is targeting toward manufacturers who need to incorporate content DRM into their devices.

either way, I'd rather have an embedded mobile P3- the C3 just plain sucks.

Unless I'm mistaken the Eden ESP7000 is designed primarily for compact digital media devices and thin-client based systems. The 1GHz chips are C3 CPU's, not EDEN. I apologise for the confusion, I have amended the thread title so it's more accurate.

OK then the fastest Eden CPU was 600 and 533 mhz. The micro-itx boards are not much bigger and you can get the eden CPUs in the same size as the one I posted above. The one above in the pic Spinner posted is only the lenght of a RAM slot..
