Thanks in advance
I have win xp and norton anti-virus. when the scan is done norton says i have "at risk files" in the "exclude" stage of the scan. it also says they are adware threats. Can i use hjthis to fix these adware exe files? if not what is the best way to attack these darn files?
here is a quick list of the crud that norton found
woinstall.exe
SEPinst.exe
emsw.exe
backup-20041224-162329-545.dll
Thanks for the help.

First off, try AdAware SE V1.05. That should get shot of 'em. If it doesn't, you could try Spybot Search and Destroy.
If all that fails, use Hijack This, but be careful, it's for advanced users only.
The guys at this Forum know a helluva lot more about that thing than I.

All of those are problems, related to different types of adware. They are installer files for the adware.
To remove them from your Exclude list, launch Norton AntiVirus, and go into options. Under the System header on the left, look for the EXCLUSIONS button, and click it. Check the list on the right for those file names. If they are there, click each one, and then click the REMOVE button to remove them from the list. Click OK to save the changes, then close the Options window, and close the Norton window. Run a new Norton scan to have it take care of the files. Or, Norton should also have shown you where each of those files are, so you can manually delete or quarantine them. if you don't want to run a full scan to do it.
