I have an Ashton Digital laptop that the hard drive is bad. It is an old one but I would like to use it as a backup. Just wondering how hard it is to install a new hard drive.........if I can find one.
Thanks

Well some laptops have the HDD installed on the side where you can just pull it out. I've seen others have it inside and you have to uninstall the keyboard.

It also depends on how old the laptop is too, for adding a new hard drive. If it's real old (pre-1999 or so), it might not support a hard drive bigger than 8.4 GB.

It has a 12 gig now but wont boot up (win98). Tried to boot up with cd & get hard drive damaged message.

If it has a 12 gigger in it now, then I would think you should be ok going with a 20 gig drive at least. You should be able to find that for pretty cheap too.

I just replaced my Inspiron 8200 with an Hitachi 7200rpm drive. As long as it is the same size in dimensions it is usually easy. The drives come bare so I had to take the plug off the end and put it on the new drive.
