I recently bought a Linksys router model BEFCMUH4 from a neighbor across the street for $30 when his internet service got cut off. I couldn't get it to work even though it says it's receiving and sending a signal (checked the adapter under network connectrions).
After researching a bit online it seems this router/cable modem was distributed by COMCast communications and Linksys does not even offer support on its website. Is there anyway I can get it to work?
I just want it to stream movies/songs/etc into the den where I have another computer set up. I have two ethernet jacks (one on motherboard another on a PCI card). Can I run the cable modem I am currently using into one card and configure the other to use the Linksys router/wireless gateway just to send data to the other computer? Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Greg

Has it been configured for your ip address? If not, then, if it has a built-in firewall, that's what's blocking you from seeing what's being transmitted. Check the manual.

It looks like there's some support on the LINKSYS site. Maybe you can find something there to help?

Thats Linksys for ya. I could never get it to work at home or here at the apartment correctly. I had a Switch that would go out on me all the time before I smashed it to pieces.

I had initial problems with my Linksys router (it would work with a hardwire, but it was not setup for wireless). I did the NetSet thing on their site and it seemed to solve all my problems.

I'm using Roadrunner as my ISP. The router was distributed only by ComCast. Is there a possiblity that it will not work at all with my ISP?

Possible, but AFAIK, Cable modems (and I may be wrong here) shouldn't matter with ISPs. I *think* it does matter with DSL.

Yes, it matters with DSL.

When I lived in Cali, PacBell had to send us a firmware update so that the DSL modem we had could properly "talk" to the Linksys router we had just bought. They were surpisingly good about the whole ordeal and we got a fix within a few hours via e-mail attachment.

In short, contact your ISP and ask them.
