What type of connection are you on. DSL, Dial up, Cable, ISDN?
How do you reconnect it? Do you power cycle your DSL modem to do so? On your DSL modem, there should be a link light or something like it (it may not say link) but it should always be solid. If that light starts to blink when it cuts off, then there is either an issue with your modem, the DSL circuit, or maybe something in your house that is dropping it. Do you have your DSL filters on everything? Like fax, Tivo, Direct Tv, security system, all phones?
When it disconnects, can you ping any websites?
Well i have the dsl modem or whateva i didnt look at lights to see. i cant ping websites and stuff cause i have no internet connectivity. DSL is only connected to my computer and nothing else. what do you mean by dsl filters. and i connect by opening high speed connection manager on windows and hitting connect and thats it.
I think by DSL filters he means a little device you have to plug into all the phonejacks in your house wherever a phone is plugged in to prevent line disruption when calls or data is sent over the line. Looks like a little box with a phonecord sticking out of it, and a hole for the phone jack to plug into.

They should have been given to you when you subscribed to the DSL line, PacBell gave us like 8 to use. We also had an older house and had to have a chip taken out of our main phoneline to the house, it prevented us from staying connected when someone called or just randomly decided to connect. I think if the house is older than 40 years (?) they're installed but no longer needed. Might want to check on that as well.

To me it sounds like what I used to get. Our old D-Link would just take a crap if it got too much BitTorrent or eDonkey traffic. It made too many connections, I guess. The Linksys has never once done it. Try either limiting outgoing connections in BitTorrent or reducing upload speed, that always seemed to work for me.
they installed the filter into the phone jack we have some of those filter things as well but they like put one right into the wall. btu yeah it happens when im downloading alot i find so that oculd be why.

Sporadically my connection dies too. I have to cycle the power on my modem and router to reconnect. Sometimes it happens once a day..maybe twice then is fine for 2 or 3 weeks.
Annoying...but that's what it does.
Motorola cable modem.
SMC wireless router
PC is hardwired to the router
Shaw ISP
Funny enough the other PC...which get's turned on not as often...never has that problem and it's wireless.
it has not happened in a few days now... of course it stops as soon as i complain :-P so i guess its good for now... hmmm

Call your ISP to make sure they are not having any trouble. You might want to call your telephone company also to get them to check your dsl signal.
