Cowboy Bebop; I own the entire series and the movie. Unbeatable. Undeniably the best anime I have ever watched.

I am on the 11th epsiode of Cowboy Bebop currently.
I am 7 episodes into the first season Ranma ½ of which there are 7 seasons
Another thing, I prefer subtitled anime over dubbed. Subtitle preserves the quality of the video without making it seem corny.

If you get a chance while you're watching Cowboy Bebop, watch the movie where it falls chronologically in the series. I believe that is between episodes 22 and 23. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here.
Ranma ½ was a bit too weird for me...

I thought the movie was created after the last episode due to the fact that Spike went after Vicious and they both killed each other.
I understand the movie explains some things a little bit better.

Fuly Culy or FLCL for short. There's only about 6 episodes of this.
I liked the original Transformers.
Too many episodes of Dragon Ball Z - 288 episodes, or about 12 seasons worth. And its not really that great of a series.

I used to watch Dragon Ball Z, enjoyed the plot mainly. Dragon Ball GT sucked donkey balls though. Why did Goku act like a child just because he was physically turned into one?!?!
Just checked out that "non standard" anime. Clicked on one picture and it was 'D*ck Madusa', made me laugh so much.
For anime lovers, check out the weebl & bob hentai episode (http://www.weebl.jolt.co.uk/hentai.htm), rather amusing.

100% Agreed, I too have all the episodes and "The Movie" on DVD.
Knockin' on Heavens Door is purely awsome! Especially the faye scene :banghead:

Well, although I don't watch much TV, I do enjoy the Aeon Flux series that aired on MTV back in the early 90's.
It's sort of 'American-anime' I think, and there are long episodes and short ones (about 3-4 mins), which are my favourite ones.
Aeon (the 'sexy' main character) doesn't speak in the short ones, but she always dies in them which I think is pretty cool becasue the star never dies in other cartoons.

If it's on, I watch it.
Otherwise I don't go out of my way for it.
Akira's the only movie which I will repeatedly watch. Slightly cliche, but worth it.

Trigun is the shizzy, too bad there aren't that many episodes.
Some of the Gundam stuff is entertaining as well.
DBZ is "The finest action cartoon on the planet" according to the good ol Toonami guy on cartoon network.
See my avatar. He is one of the best DBZ characters.

I'm not big on DBZ or Gundam stuff, but I like anime...
I have all of Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, FLCL, Battle Athletes Victory, Kare Kano, Noir, Record of Lodoss War, DNA^2 and most of Outlaw Star, Kenshin, GTO, Irresponsible Captain Taylor, Berserk, Flame or Recca, Fushigi Yugi, ./hack sign, s.CRY.ed, Utena, and a few others I've picked up.
OH, and every Initial D thingy there is!
I liked Bebop the best, followed by Initial D and Trigun, and Gargoyle and I are currently watching GTO. GTO rocks ballz.
I happen to _love_ FLCL, but nobody wants to watch it with me cuz they don't get it.
Everything I watch is dubbed if at all possible. I hate subs cuz they never get the voices or the dialogue right.

Evangelion, Vampire Hunter D, Witch Hunter Robin, Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, old school Robotech, Berserk, Akira, Ninja Scroll, Gasaraki, Spriggan, s-CRY-ed, Hellsing, Ghost in the Shell-SAC, Grave of the Fireflies, Princess Mononoke (anything by Miyazaki is good), Macross 0, Jin-Roh, Heat Guy J, Wolf's Rain, and OMFG Kenshin are all the bomb!
Yeah I know I need help. Luckily my pocket book and other online methods can feed the Anime monkey on my back. A great site for review and anime info is:

I don't dig DBZ or Pokemon or find Anime women attractive, but I love the action and the art.

FLCL... that the one where the things come out of that kid's forehead? I used to dislike it, but I think it's grown on me.
My fav's are Cowboy Bebop, Trigun, and GTO (although GTO might not be considered anime, tell me if I'm wrong).

Me and Gargoyle finished Inital D last year and my other friends watched it and now have all the mangas. Its not the best, the story isn't groundbreaking and the animation kinda lacks, but its still a fun story (and its cool cuz a Toyota stomps rice Hondas).
IC11 has an Initial D wallpaper. Its a Corolla Levin for IC 11.

I don't like anime ;[
or any cartoons anymore really...
This is an excerpt from an article I wrote about Animation a couple years ago.
They think that they are going to sell this anime stuff to kids. I believe that they will be sorely dissapointed by the sales. The reason: the Japanese don't believe that all cartoons are for kids.
It kind of irritates me that in America cartoons have received this odd reputation for being a medium solely designed for kids. Here's the thing: The reason people started making cartoons is because the special effects are so much easier when it's just a drawing. You can do anything that you want in a cartoon, there are no limits. The earliest cartoons in america, were showcases of this ability. If you watch an old Betty Boop, or Foxy cartoon, you'll see that it's a non-stop collaboration of animals dressed like people doing impossible things with their bodies, and all of the items (cars, mailboxes, houses, whatever) have faces and can talk. These cartoonists were cramming about as much sillyness as possible into a seven minute space. This was novel for awhile, but soon only children were able to appreciate the almost non-existent plot lines, and over used jokes and sight-gags.
The next evolution of cartoons came with the color. Things got less zany, and the humor became more based on the situation that the characters were in, rather than what they were able to do with their bodies. I guess you could say that it became less of a freak show. Although, the main characters were all still animals in the Warner Bros. cartoons. This stage in cartoons came in sync with the disney feature cartoons which portrayed real people, doing possible things. Still, the plots were lacking.
The reason that the cartoons never really developed into a more mature medium in America, is because they already had this stigma of being only for kids. Adults don't watch cartoons, because they are silly, and lacking in plot. If adults don't watch cartoons, then why make cartoons for adults. It's a simple marketing decision, but that doesn't mean that we should help perpetuate the cycle.
I've talked to many adults (It's just one of my hobbies). Sometimes they will ask for movie suggestions (just polite conversation). If I recommend an animated movie of any kind, I'm very likely to get this response: "Animated? Cartoons are for kids." A lot of people feel this way, and it's not just older people. Some of my peers (twenties) feel the same way, and the sad part is that they never give it a chance. To me, this is just as bad as saying, "It was made with a camera?! Bah! I can't watch movies with live actors!" See how silly that sounds?
Example: Saturday night I rented "DBZ: Tree of Might" for myself and four of my friends to watch. This is a good anime movie, that I knew that they would enjoy. Predictably, half of the group refused to watch it, on the grounds that it was a cartoon. They knew nothing about it, and dismissed it out-right, I was very dissapointed in them.
All that I'm trying to say with this is that you people (yes, you!) need to atleast give the animated shows the same chance that you give to other shows, and I don't mean watch one anime and make your decision about them based on that, they're not all the same like they used to be. Each show and movie is as individual as the shows and movies that rely on cameras and computers. Some are for children, some are for every one, and some are definitely for adults. Some are action oriented, some are romance oriented, some are dramatic, some are silly, and some are just plain stupid. But don't write them off because of the few stupid ones, or because you think that they are for children. You already know not to judge a book by it's cover. It's time that we all learn not to judge a show or a movie by its medium alone... You could really be missing out on something good.

Wow, CB... these days it seems like DBZ is a really BAD example if you want to say that anime can be for adults... ;)
The point wasen't that DBZ itself IS for adults. That is for each adult do decide for themselves. The point is that some people will never know, because they wont even watch a minute of it.

My Mom has that same idea, she thinks I'm too old to watch cartoons. And as a result she won't watch cartoons.
However, my dad, 61, likes watching cartoons on the occasion.
Those cartoons from the pre 70's era is what burned adults on the idea of what a cartoon is.
My brother likes some cartoons, but dislikes anime due to what "anime" is being shown on network television. I was the same way until I watched some good Japanese Anime, now I can't get enough of it.
DragonballZ is a bad example of a good adult anime.
I've watched enought DBZ cartoons on the Cartoon Network to dislike watching DBZ.

Never liked DBZ and I never will. It's one of my least favorite shows. The story, the characters, and the animation are uninteresting to me.
Would you consider movies like Heavy Metal, Titan A.E., and others like those anime? I know they are animation, but I dunno for sure if you are speaking of JAPANESE Anime.

I wouldn't. They're artistic style and flavor are not the same. Although Heavy Metal and Titan A.E. are good animation, I don't think they're any closer to anime than Lilo and Stich. They've definitely been influenced by anime though.

I watch cartoons once in a while, and some might consider it anime, but I don't (maybe my definition is too narrow). When I think anime I think Dragon Ball/Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, and other cartoons w/ that same look/feel. I like Spiderman (the one Fox had a few years back) and I loved the old Transformers (mid 80s). Is that anime? Perhaps, I don't know, but it sure doesn't look like what I think of when I think anime. Scooby Doo is pretty kewl, Justice League rocks. Batman rules! Ahh, the more I talk about cartoons the more I long for my childhood. :)

I'll be honest and say that I would probably never have given anime a chance, given that I am still stuck in the late 60's Saturday morning cartoon mindset I had as a kid.
My daughter, who just graduated High School this Spring, is nuts about anime. She has shown me some stuff which has a much better developed plot, characters, storyline, etc. to change my mind.
Of course, it should come as no surprise that I still rank Rocky & Bullwinkle as the all-time best. :D

It looks like they are so cheap, because they only have the overseas editions. Of course, if you're a purist and only listen to the Japanese voice track with English Subtitles, then you're set.
I find the US editions to have a higher quality packaging as well as the media itself. Ebay is another option. I got Spriggan and Amon Saga for less than 10$ delivered.

Spiderman, Justice League, and BatMan are not Anime.
I wouldn't really consider the original Transformers anime, but my brother said he heard that it was.
Defining exactly what is and is not Anime has been a challenge from the start. The word 'Anime' is english, so is the concept of Anime as a genre. (the Japanese certainly do not group EVERY animated feature that is produced there into one genre) The word has been around since the eighties, but it did not gain popular usage until the mid-nineties when the term 'Japanimation' was removed from the lexicon after being declared offencive by the creators and fans of Japanese produced animation.
'Anime' is just short for 'Animation'
The biggest problem is that everyone has a different concept of just what Anime is.
A lot of hard-core fans beleive that it cannot be called Anime unless it is actually from Japan.
Some older fans agree, but add that it also has to fit a certain stylistic format. This particular style was developed in the late seventies and early eighties. The first film in this style to reach America as a dubbed feature was 'Akira', and untill the mid-nineties it was imposible to find Japanese animation dubbed into english unless it was in that same style, thus establishing the stereo-typical 'look' of anime. There were alot of (about 40) subtitled 'giant robot' seires released in America earlier, but these were not taken seriously by most fans of the art (although the American "Transformers" was heavily based on these).
In the early The popularity of a silly show called "Dragonball" (published here by FunImation studios) among children in the US prompted the dubbing of its sequel series "DragonballZ" by a little Huston studio called Pioneer (this is the same studio that dubbed Akira). This seires, while alreaty old hat in Japan, was like a miniature revolution of animation in the english and spanish speaking world. It was the first time that we got a some more mature animation from Japan that was in seires form so that it could be shown on television instead of just being sold on VHS. They dubbed the first season as an experiment. The series was picked up by Cartoon Network on the condition that the execive blood be recolored as sweat and soot. Cartoon Network showed the series late at night, and it was moderatly succesful. They showed the same season over again about five times while the show picked up more veiwers. Soon, Pioneer embarked on the lofty mission of dubbing the rest of the series, to the imence delight of the fans. Cartoon Network became instrumental in the popularising of anime when they established Toonami, a several hour program of anime in the afternoon. They started buying up almost every anime series that someone was willing to dubb, and that was relatively clean. Most of it came from Pioneer, FunImation, and Sunshine Studios.
The confusion started when American studios started to make their own more mature animation, and the styles comming out of Japan started to look very similar. It wasen't that one was definetly copying the other, it was that both began moving toward the same final destination. Even thematicaly the styles started to become more similar (although neither the hardcore pornography anime, nor the hardcore violent anime ever caught on with american studios).
I'm not sure where I was going with that anymore...
Anyway, here's the thing: Webster tells us that an anime is "a style of animation originating in Japan that is characterized by stark colorful graphics depicting vibrant characters in action-filled plots often with fantastic or futuristic themes."
If we use that definition, then such stark colorful fantastic stories, like our American comic-book style stuff is anime. But then again, some dark Japanese stuff, like Boogiepop would not be anime.
So, hopefully you see the difficulty here...
danball1976

Any anime I watch has to be in Japanese and subtitled in English. Sometimes the dubbing ruins the quality of the animation and what they are actually saying. Although, subtitles aren't a totally accurate translation, its still just as easy to understand.
Such as in Ranma, when saying something like o-nee-chan, which is sister in english, they will instead show that person's name (like Kasumi's name)

I believe the two best Anime series that I have watched so far are:
Please Teacher (Onegai Teacher - 12 episodes + 1 OVA)
Please Twins (Onegai Twins - up to Episode 7, more episodes to come - still either being subbed by fan subs websites like Anime-Empire or Aniverse or not released yet)
Onegai Twins is a spin off/sequal to Onegai Teacher. The Teacher (Mizuho) appears quite often in Twins, her husband (Kei) appears only 4 times so far, with no lines. Ichigo also appears often and is the school president.
<a href="http://www.pleaseteacher.net" target="_blank">Onegai Teacher</a>
<a href="http://www.bandai-ent.com" target="_blank">Bandai Entertainment</a>
Please don't pay attention to the trailer on the website or on Bandai Visual's Website (the same one that made Cowboy Bebop). It does not do the series justice. It makes the series appear as something its not. I would suggest downloading or buying (watch it in japanese with english subs if you buy it)
