Okay I have had my computer up and running for the last month or two. Now I was playing Knight of the Old Republic 2 for the last week or so with only a few occational problems. Then a few days ago I started getting random reboots in the middle of the game. I blamed it entirely on the game since I know KOTOR1 had caused similar problems with me. But these crashes were very random. Using a temperature probe I noticed my CPU was running a little hot. Not overly so, it's run hotter but I figured I'd open the case and put a fan on it just in case.
Ran fine, then a couple hours later I get another crash while playing KOTOR2 only this one appears to have been fatal. It randomly resetted like before, only it never even made it to bios... and it hasn't since. I'm hoping I haven't blown my CPU/mobo again (I just recently did so a few months ago) I'm really worried about my power supply... it's pretty old. Do old PSU's have a tendency to fry hardware?
Oh! I should say all the fans (CPU, graphics, case) all come on, as do the lights for the CD-rom drives and FDD. Oddly, the CD-rom drives will NOT open if I press the buttons. A final oddity, in a test to see if it was my power supply I kind whacked it while it was on... the lights on the CD-roms returned to normal and I could open and close them... but when I restarted the PC it still wouldn't boot. Any and all help would greatly be appreciated.
update: To be a bit clearer on the problem, Video doesn't turn on, I get no beeps, and I can see any response to anything I do.
What I've tried:
Taking apart and reassembling the PC
Flashing the CMOS
Moving the ram to the second slot
Ensuring all connections are good as well as reseating my video card, processor, and ram several times.
If no one can help me with a solution... if anyone knows what is most likely the problem (mother board got fried, faulty power supply, etc)
Asrock K7VT4A+
1 stick 512mb DDR400
Athlon Xp 2600+ Barton
ATi 9800SE
None of which are overclocked.
