Hi all,

I was just wondering if there are any notebooks/laptops out there with an AMD processor and a NVIDIA graphics card. Most of the ones that I've seen are only AMD with a ATI Radeon 9700. I really appreicate the help. Thanks

Not that I've seen. And why does it have to have an nVidia graphics chip?

the mobile 9700 is better than most mobile nvidia solutions, except maybe the recent modular GPUs (but the X800 mobile is just about as good as those so...)

And the other thing I forgot to mention earlier is that if you want a really serious gaming notebook, you're gonna be stuck with a P4. It's unfortunate, as the A64 and Pentium M are both significantly better CPUs, but nobody makes notebooks with fast GPUs with either one. :-/ If you want the fastest graphics you can get, you're stuck with the P4.

Well the thing is I finally found a notebook with an AMD Athlon 64 and NVIDIA graphics card. It's here customized to my wants:

HP Pavilion vz5000z: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/cto/computer_customize_components.do?storeName=computer_store&eppPrefix=&category=notebooks/hp_pavilion/zv5000z_series&destination=components&productId=DP523AV

Compaq Presario R3000Z: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/cto/computer_customize_components.do?storeName=computer_store&eppPrefix=&category=notebooks/compaq_presario/R3000Z_series&destination=components&productId=DP533AV

I just wanted to know it these companies make good and worthwhile notebooks. Someone else I talked to said that the AMD Athlon is unnecessary and drains tha battery is that true? Thanks for you opinion.

The A64 gets decent battery life... and personally, I despise Compaq and HP notebooks. I've known too may people that've owned them and had them fall apart.

And what exactly do you want this notebook for? What kind of programs will you be running on it? I hope you don't expect to play games on those graphics chips... :shakehead

Why not play games on it? The NVIDIA graphics chip is pretty good. If not HP or Compaq, any other alternatives?

Not for any of today's games. Maybe on their lowest settings, but those definitely aren't for gaming.

Then what would be a decent notebook for gaming that's worthwhile and in my price range? (under $1,700)

Definitely talk to Geeky. He seems to be the resident gaming laptop guru.

ATI Mobility RADEON 9550 graphics with 64MB video memory; S-video TV-out => this is decent, but the 9700 will cream it.

also, I'd prefer a WSXGA or WUXGA display...

what's the difference between a WSXGA and a WUXGA? Besides, the graphics is decent and the AMD sort of makes up for it right?
