Before the HSA fix, let's get rid of your other problem.

Click Start -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and uninstall this program if listed.

New.net Application
or
New.net Domains

If neither is listed, download and run this tool.

http://www.new.net/support/uninstall6_38.exe

Reboot and post a new hijackthis log.

Okay, I uninstalled New.net domains, and it seems to have worked. After a reboot, it is no longer listed in the add/remove programs list. Thanks for that. Here is the new Hijack This list.

Please remove these entries from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel(if present):

Wild Tangent

Please follow these steps to remove the HSA from your computer.

Step 1
Download this tool called AboutBuster http://www.downloads.subratam.org/AboutBuster.zip
Unzip it to your desktop but don't run it yet.

Step 2
Download Adaware SE Personal from http://www.lavasoft.de/english/default.shtml. Install and open Adaware and click on *Check for Updates Now* and then *Connect*. It will find a new reference-file. Click *ok* and let it download and install the updates by clicking on *Finish* .This will return you to the main screen. Exit Adaware.

Step 3
Print out these instructions so you have them handy as most of the steps need to be done in safe mode and you may not be able to go online.

Step 4
Make sure your PC is configured to show hidden files.
Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Step 5
Next, go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok

Scroll down and find the service called Service: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper. When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows.

Step 6
Reboot to Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode. To get back to normal mode just restart the computer as you normally would.

Step 7
Scan with Hijack This and put checks next to all the following, then click "Fix Checked"

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINNT\vyoia.dll/sp.html#96676

Step 8
Double click AboutBuster.exe that you downloaded earlier. Click OK, click Start, then click OK. This will scan your computer for the bad files and delete them. Save the report(copy and paste into notepad or wordpad and save as a .txt file) and post a copy back here when you are done with all the steps.

Step 9
Scan with Adaware and let it remove any bad files found.

Step 10
Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

Step 11
Reboot to normal mode, scan again with Hijack This and post a new log here.

Step 12
Finally, do an online scan at one of the following sites. Let it remove any infected files found.
http://housecall.antivirus.com
or
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

Post a fresh HijackThis log and the AboutBuster report back here please.

Ok! I followed your steps with a few exceptions. The following lines didn't show up on the hijack scan, so I couldn't remove them:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {75D03151-2F99-4FD5-D020-908CB90B8788} - C:\WINNT\crsi.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WildTangent CDA] RUNDLL32.exe "C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine0400.dll",cdaEngineMain

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [crtk.exe] C:\WINNT\crtk.exe

O23 - Service: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper ( 6Q'8) - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\system32\netje.exe

Also, just to let you know, when I started IE for the first time after following your instructions, I actually got my original homepage (google) and not the HSA page. However, I did get the error that says IE must close, do I want to send an error report?,etc. I let it close and opened it again. This time one of the old popups came back along with the error. And on the third opening, the old about:blank homepage was back. So, it was almost fixed, but then it came back. Should I try it again? Thanks for your efforts. Any further advice would truly be appreciated.

Ok. here's the new log...

Stop this process with Task manager and then delete this file.

C:\WINNT\system32\addlc32.exe

Can you please post the About Buster log from when you ran it in the last step?

Hello again,

When I ended the process addlc32.exe via the task manager, it almost instantly reappeared on the list. When I tried to delete it, an error message asserting "access is denied" popped up. So I booted into safe mode like I did last time, and I was able to delete it from there. It is no longer running; it is gone.

Here is the about buster log from the last attack. Again thanks so much for your patience and continued help.

Ok, here's the new hijack this log. One thing I should note: I am no longer getting the error box that terminates ie. However, the homepage is still about:blank. Thanks again. Anything more you can do will be a big help.

You'll need to run through this fix again. You also should be aware that every time you reboot or use IE the filenames could change. So your best chance for success is to follow these steps as soon as possible.

Please follow these steps to remove the HSA from your computer.

Step 1
Download cwsserviceremove.zip and extract it to your desktop:
http://lineofire.geekstogo.com/cwsserviceremove.zip

Step 2
Download this tool called AboutBuster http://www.downloads.subratam.org/AboutBuster.zip
Unzip it to your desktop but don't run it yet.

Step 3
Download Adaware SE Personal from http://www.lavasoft.de/english/default.shtml. Install and open Adaware and click on *Check for Updates Now* and then *Connect*. It will find a new reference-file. Click *ok* and let it download and install the updates by clicking on *Finish* .This will return you to the main screen. Exit Adaware.

Step 4
Print out these instructions so you have them handy as most of the steps need to be done in safe mode and you may not be able to go online.

Step 5
Make sure your PC is configured to show hidden files.
Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

Step 6
Next, go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok

Scroll down and find the service called Workstation NetLogon Service. When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows.

Step 7
Reboot to Safe Mode
Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode. To get back to normal mode just restart the computer as you normally would.

Step 8
Scan with Hijack This and put checks next to all the following, then click "Fix Checked"

Step 9
Double click AboutBuster.exe that you downloaded earlier. Click OK, click Start, then click OK. This will scan your computer for the bad files and delete them. Save the report(copy and paste into notepad or wordpad and save as a .txt file) and post a copy back here when you are done with all the steps.

Step 10
Scan with Adaware and let it remove any bad files found.

Step 11
Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

Step 12
Find the cwsserviceremove.reg that you downloaded in Step one. Double click on the cwsserviceemove.reg Answer Yes when asked to have its contents added to the Registry.

Step 13
Reboot to normal mode, scan again with Hijack This and post a new log here.

Step 14
Finally, do an online scan at one of the following sites. Let it remove any infected files found.
http://housecall.antivirus.com
or
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

Post a fresh HijackThis log and the AboutBuster report back here please.

One more thing. I just got, and have gotten before, a warning box with the heading "Windows Security Center." It warns me that windows firewall has detected suspicious network activity. Specifically, malicious software codes are trying to steal my privacy information... Then it asks me if i'd like to learn how to protect my computer. I clicked "no." Is this message really from windows? Thanks.

That sounds like it's legit, but you are right to question anything that looks unusual.

Bad news. I did it just now, and it doesn't seem like it worked. Like last time, the first open of ie revealed the legendary original google homepage. Alas, during the final step, the antivirus step, i experienced the fatal error that closes ie. Which brings me to issue number two. I was unable to run either of the antiviruses. The first repeatedly ended with the aforementioned error. The second never even came up. In fact, after entering the web address, nothing happened at all.

Thanks again for your perpetual patience. It feels like we are so close. Here's the about buster from safe mode and the hijack this from right now.

P.S. How did you learn how to do all this crazy stuff.

Ok, let's try another method.

Please download CWShredder but don't run it yet.
http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWSInstall.exe

Download Ad-aware SE from: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html

Install the program and launch it. First, in the main window, look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files. Exit Adaware for now.

Make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial62.html)

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html)

Now run CWShredder, making sure to click "Fix".

Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

C:\WINNT\system32\addlc32.exe
C:\WINNT\iptq.exe
C:\WINNT\atlgl32.exe
C:\WINNT\msow32.dll

Run a full scan with Adaware.

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and post a new log.

You must understand that each time you reboot or use IE, these filenames can change. So the longer you wait to do this fix, the less chance it has of actually succeeding. By now you should start to be able to see the pattern of this infection. The R1/R0, 02, 04, and 023 lines that I indicated are bad. The filenames may change by the time you perform this fix, but the pattern should be similar.

Scroll down and find the service called Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINNT\ohvbi.dll/sp.html#37049
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINNT\ohvbi.dll/sp.html#37049
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = about:blank
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = res://C:\WINNT\ohvbi.dll/sp.html#37049
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\WINNT\ohvbi.dll/sp.html#37049
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINNT\ohvbi.dll/sp.html#37049
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINNT\ohvbi.dll/sp.html#37049
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = res://C:\WINNT\ohvbi.dll/sp.html#37049
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {83F912D6-C590-9F8F-2AA5-DD7B85112D6F} - C:\WINNT\system32\addgm.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [mfcxm.exe] C:\WINNT\system32\mfcxm.exe
O23 - Service: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Helper ( 11F#`I) - Unknown owner - C:\WINNT\d3xr.exe" /s (file missing)

and delete the following files if present(do not be concerned if some do not exist).

C:\WINNT\d3xr.exe
C:\WINNT\ohvbi.dll
C:\WINNT\system32\addgm.dll
C:\WINNT\system32\mfcxm.exe
