Please download CWShredder but don't run it yet.
http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWSInstall.exe

Download Ad-aware SE from: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html

Install the program and launch it. First, in the main window, look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files. Exit Adaware for now.

Make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial62.html)

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,SearchAssistant = C:\WINDOWS\_s.html
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = res://C:\DOCUME~1\CAMERO~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\se.dll/sp.html

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html)

Now run CWShredder, making sure to click "Fix".

Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

C:\WINDOWS\System32\lnc.dll

Delete temp files

Navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Navigate to the C:\Windows\Prefetch folder. Open the Prefetch folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Prefetch folder.

Go to Start > Run and type %temp% in the Run box. The Temp folder will open. Click Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin.

Run a full scan with Adaware.

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode and post a new log.

Are you using XP Home or Pro? Also go into my computer and right click on the C: drive and tell me if the filesystem is NTFS or FAT32?

Next please download and install the program Registry Lite from here:

http://www.resplendence.com/reglite

Once it is installed, please double click on the icon that should now be on your desktop. If an icon is not there, then check under programs portion of the Start Menu.

Once it is opened, copy and paste the below line, into the address field of Registrar Lite.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs

And press enter. You will now be presented with new information in the bottom right and left sections and on the right section, the name AppInit_DLLs should be highlighted. Double-click on the AppInit_DLLs entry and copy and paste the text found in the value field in your next reply to this post.

c:\windows\system32\reski.dll
Is that what you where asking for?

Buckeye_Sam

Yep, that's the bad guy. Now follow these steps to kill the bad guy. :D

Step 1:

Please make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial62.html)

Create new folder on your hard drive called c:\regbackup.

Step 2:

Please click on start, then run, and type C: and press the OK button.

When the C: drive folder opens, click on Folder Options and then View.

Scroll to the bottom of the list of options to find a checkbox labeled:

Use Simple File Sharing(Recommended)

Uncheck that box and press OK.

Step 3:

Download the file Hiving.bat from here:

http://computercops.biz/modules.php?name=F...ownload&id=1183 (http://computercops.biz/modules.php?name=Forums&file=download&id=1183)

Once the file is download, extract it to your desktop and disconnect from the Internet.

Now double-click on the extracted Hiving.bat found on your desktop. If you have script blocking enabled you will get a warning. Please allow the entire script to run.

When it has completed. Immediately reboot your computer. Once your computer has been rebooted, we will be able to see the file that keeps infecting you.

Step 4:

Once the computer has restarted, find this file:

c:\windows\system32\reski.dll

I need you to right click on the file and go into its properties. Then click on the Security tab and click on the Advanced button. Make sure under the Permissions tab that your the Everyone or Users group has Full Control. If they don't, click once on that group to select them and click on the Edit button. Then put a checkmark in the Full Control box. Next click on the Owner tab and click once on your name. Then press the Apply button to take ownership. Then keep pressing OK to get out of the properties page. Now delete the file.

Step 5:

If you are in safe mode, reboot into normal mode and run CWShredder.

Step 6:

Run a full scan with Adaware.

When that is completed post a new hijackthis log.

Ok I did everything you asked me to twice and could not find the file c:\windows\systems32\reski.dll

Check this for this value again with Registry Lite.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs

Please post a new hijackthis log.

Let's try a new method.

Download and extract this file to your desktop.
http://www.derbilk.de/SpSeHjfix_Beta7.zip

Start SpSeHjfix_Beta7.exe click on " Desinfecton starten". Your computer should reboot and finish cleaning.

Post a new hijackthis log after you reboot.

So I run all my spybot and ad aware first and delete all temp folder again before I do it. I will do it tonight when I get home.
Thanks

Buckeye_Sam

It's not necesary to run spybot and adaware first, or delete temp files at this time. Just remove the lines noted with hijackthis and let's see if that does it.

Check this for this value again with Registry Lite.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\\AppInit_DLLs

Download and run this tool.
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/FxAgentB.exe

Let me know if it finds anything.

Buckeye_Sam
22 Mar 2005, 4:18am
Ok, here we go.

1. Create a new folder on your hard drive called c:\regbackup.

2. Run Registrar Lite again

3. Enter HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows into the address field and press enter on your keyboard. On the left side of the screen the Windows key should be selected and highlighted purple.

4. With the Windows key highlighted click on the File menu, and then click on export.

5. Enter winkey.reg in the name field and change the Save as Type to Regedit4 standard .reg files (*.reg)

6. Change the Save in: dropdown menu to c:\regbackup

7. Then press the Save button

8. With the Windows key highlighted again click on the File menu, and then click on export.

9. Enter Winkey.hiv in the name field and change the Save as Type to Regedt32/WinApi hive files (*.hiv,*.dat, *.*)

10. Change the Save in: dropdown menu to c:\regbackup

11. Then press the Save button

12. When both backups are successfully saved, right-click on the highlighted Windows key and click on the rename option. Rename the Windows key to Windows1.

13. With Windows1 highlighted, look in the right section and double-click on AppInit_DLLs and clear the text in the Value field. That is the dll(reski.dll) you have seen previously. If a file name does not exist there, then just press the OK button.

14. Rename Windows1 back to Windows and exit the Registrar Lite.

15. Reboot your computer.

16. When you are back at your desktop, navigate to the c:\regback folder. Double-click on the winkey.reg file. When it prompt if you would like to import/merge the data press the Yes button

17. Run Registrar Lite again

18. Enter HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows into the address field and press enter on your keyboard. On the left side of the screen the Windows key should be selected and highlighted purple.
