Intels stock fan's on the presscotts are VERY loud. I recomend changing it to something like a zalman 7700 your chip will run cooler and the fan is very quiet on quiet mode.

A setting in your motherboard's BIOS may allow for some fan control by dialing down the fan speed in relation to temperature.
The other solution is to purchase a new HSF to replace the stock one that you do have.
As only a suggestion...This heatsink (http://www.short-media.com/review.php?r=260) is very quiet and looks cool too. It works quite well and you can have manual control over the fan speed or, if your motherboard supports it in BIOS...automatic control.
I suggest thermalright xp-90 w/ thermaltake 90mm smart led 78+ cfm fan.
you will need the s478--->lga775 retention bracket too. don't forget ArticSilver5.
