Hello all,

My computer is infested with spyware all of a sudden, and my anti-virus can't manually delete half of them. I've been trying my best to do it by myself with all I've been taught from everyone here, but I just can't seem to get rid of them, they just keep coming back. So, I've come to ask the experts for help. Thank you to anyone willing to help me, it will be most appreciated.

Here is my HijackThis! log:

Please download CWShredder but don't run it yet.
http://cwshredder.net/bin/CWSInstall.exe

Download Ad-aware SE from: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html

Install the program and launch it. First, in the main window, look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now and download the latest reference files. Exit Adaware for now.

Make sure that you can view all hidden files. Instructions on how to do this can be found here:

How to see hidden files in Windows (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial62.html)

Run Hijackthis again, click scan, and Put a checkmark next to each of these. Then close all other windows--you should only see HijackThis on your Desktop--and click the Fix Checked button.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html)

Now run CWShredder, making sure to click "Fix".

Then delete these files or directories (Do not be concerned if they do not exist)

C:\WINDOWS\isrvs
C:\WINDOWS\System32\wmplayer.exe
c:\windows\system32\eetjanxq.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\private-zone.exe

Run a full scan with Adaware.

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode.

Please run at least two of these online scans.
Make sure they are set to clean automatically:

http://www.bitdefender.com/scan/licence.php

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

If there are files that can not be removed by the scans please include that information in your next post.

Reboot and post a new hijackthis log.

Alrighty, I did everything you asked except the three anti-virus scans. I tried to do them, but my Internet Explorer would randomley close itself about halfway through every time. CWS Shredder didn't find anything. I didn't find any of the above files to delete either. I've also noticed that even when I'm not doing the online anti-virus scans, my Internet Explorer will randomley close itself (I'm assuming that a virus is doing this). I'm using PC-cillin Internet Security 2005, I've done multiple virus and spyware scans, but they're not finding anything, I've also been keeping it up-to-date. I've also been getting a random pop-up thats says "ActiveX settings..... blah blah blah" so I click the close sign, then it says "You MUST click YES to download", so I click the close sign again, but it keeps popping up. So I'm really confused on this one. Also, I noticed that all those *Trusted Zone* files are still in my HijackThis! log. Thanks for the help thus far :)

Here's my latest HijackThis scan:

When I was doing the bitdefender.com scan, I copied and pasted everything that it scaned before Internet Explorer closed itself. Here's what it said:

Download(right click and select Save file as or Save link as): DelDomains.inf
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

To use: Close all open browsers
Right-click DelDomains.inf and select: Install

This should remove those 015 entries.

Place a checkmark next to these entries, close all browsers and windows, and have HijackThis fix them by clicking Fix Checked:

F3 - REG:win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\System32\msoffice.exe
O15 - ProtocolDefaults: 'http' protocol is in Trusted Zone, should be Internet Zone
O15 - ProtocolDefaults: 'http' protocol is in Trusted Zone, should be Internet Zone (HKLM)

Please download and install A-Squared. You will have to register with them in order to install the updates, but it's free. Once updated, run a full scan and remove everything that is found.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4281.html

Reboot and post a new hijackthis log. Let me know how things feel.

Well, DelDomains.inf works for like 5 mins, then the 015 entries just come right back, and my Internet Explorer still exits out. Also I'm using a dial-up connection, and everytime I would dial up I could hear it dialing and connecting from my computer, and all of a sudden when the viruses hit my computer (a day or two ago) it wont make noise anymore, so I can't tell if I'm connecting or not untill it says "verfying password". So far I'm having all the same problems, and I'm afraid to check my e-mail on this computer due to not knowing whats wrong with it.

Did you run A-Squared already? If so, did it find anything?

If IE is giving you so much trouble try using Firefox as an alternate browser.

Please post a new hijackthis log once you have completed the A2 scan.

Well, I scanned with A-Squared, and it found 2 Malware infections. Both were succesfully removed. They were the following two files:

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Local Settings\Temp\__unin__.exe (Adware.Altnet.b)

C:\WINDOWS\edxde.exe (not-a-virus:AdWare.ToolBar.EliteBar.aa)

Also, during the scan, my PC-cillin Internet Security kept giving my warnings that the following files were detected but unable to disinfect:

C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\B71924079\build2.exe
C:\127062.exe
C:\Program Files\Common Files\midaddle\WildWinTracker.exe.tcf
C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\ICD2.tmp\v3.dll
C:\WINDOWS\Buddy.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\axuninstall.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rpgqnd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\topsys.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vryppd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsxsvc\wsx.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsxsvc\wsx.ocx
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsxsvc\wsxsvc.exe.tcf

But, after that, I would scan with my PC-cillin Internet Security, and the virus scan and spyware scan would both come up with nothing, which I found very strange. My PC-cillin has been warning me about these for about two or so days now, and every time one popped up I would manually delete the file, but they just kept coming back.

Also, my PC-cillin warned me while A-Squared was scanning that the following file was detected:

MS04-011 LSASS EXPLOIT

My PC-cillin said it was detected and I should do a virus scan, but when I did, it didn't show up...so I have no clue whats going on with why that won't show up.

Here's my latest HijackThis! scan:

We need to find the hidden file(s) that's causing your problems.

Download DLLCompare (http://downloads.subratam.org/DllCompare.exe).
Double-click on DllCompare.exe to run the program.
Click "Run Locate.com" and it will scan your system for files.
Once the scan has finished click "Compare" to compare your files to valid Windows files.
Once it has finished comparing click "Make a Log of what was found".
Click "Yes" at the View Log file? prompt to view the log.
Copy and paste the entire log into this topic.
If you accidentally close out of the log it is also saved as log.txt to where you saved DllCompare.exe.
Click "Exit" to exit DLLCompare.

Alrighty, I found and deleted those two files, and I ran those three online scan tests because my Internet Explorer isn't acting up anymore. Here's the results:

For the bitdefender.com scan I had 19 infected files that couldn't be deleted after the scan was completed, auto-clean couldn't delete them. Here's the log for that scan:

Infected Objects: 19

For the trendmicro.com scan, it came up with zero infected objects.

And lastly, for the pandasoftware.com scan, it came up with somwhere around 50 infected objects, and only 3 were succesfully cleaned. The auto-clean couldn't delete the rest. Here's my log from that scan:

I would like to have you run one more online virus scan.

http://www.kaspersky.com/beta?product=161744315

If for some reason it does not work for you, please follow the instructions at this link to temporarily install, update, and run Kaspersky antivirus. Once the scan has run please uninstall Kasperky so it will not conflict with your current antivirus program.

Let me know how it goes and post a new hijackthis log when you are done.

Alrighty...here's the scoop.

I took the scan, it found about eight viruses, and deleted them with no problem. I took the scan a second time just to be sure everything got cleaned up, and the second scan came out clean. That sure was a long scan though, it took around six and a half hours.

Well, I am still getting notifications from my PC-cillin that there is spyware and adware on my computer that cannot be automatically healed, and I see some stuff still lurking around in my HijackThis! scan, but I don't want to touch anything and accidently make something worse.

Thank you for helping me out so far, I appreciate everything you've done so mcuh!

Here's the latest HijackThis! scan:

Download the attached file and extract fix.reg to your desktop. We will use it later.

Place a checkmark next to these entries, close all browsers and windows, and have HijackThis fix them by clicking Fix Checked:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Desktop Search] C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\desktop.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ffis] C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\ffisearch.exe
O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)

Then reboot, on restart, restart in Safe Mode (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html)

Start | Run (type and click Ok for each of the following: (if exists)

regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\sysupd.dll
regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\mfiltis.dll
regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\msdbhk.dll

Next:

Locate fix.reg right-click and select: Merge (Ok the prompt)

Start | Run (type) "%temp%" (no quotes) [required step]
Completely delete the entire contents of that "temp" folder.

Open Windows Explorer to your Windows\Temp folder [required step]
Completely delete the entire contents of that "temp" folder.

Open Windows Explorer locate and delete the following: (if exists)

C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\desktop.exe
C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\ffisearch.exe
C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\sysupd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\mfiltis.dll
C:\WINDOWS\isrvs\msdbhk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\delprot.sys
C:\WINDOWS\delprot.ini
C:\WINDOWS\delprot.log
C:\WINDOWS\isrvs <--this folder

After the above, reboot, rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log ...

I did everything you said, and everything seems to be running smoothly, and my HijackThis! log seems to look fine, I think it's just one thing now.

Whenever I dial up onto the internet, I can't hear it actually dial up now. I always could just untill my computer got over-run with spyware. It's not the biggest deal in the world, but it is a little annoying. Do you have any clue why? Also, it dosn't show that I'm connected to the internet in my notification area, but it always used to...and I have it set to show in the notification area when I'm connected, but it still won't.

Thank you so much for your help, I appreciate it so so much. Thank you.

There should be a setting for that with your modem.

Control Panel -> Phone and Modem Options -> click modems tab -> select your modem and click the properties -> click on the modem tab

Your modem port speed and modem volume should be there.

One more thing...my PC-cillin just detected the following file:

MS04-011 LSASS EXPLOIT

I'm not sure on how to go about fixing this.

Thanks for help with everything!

You need to install this update from Microsoft.

http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS04-011.mspx

Then you need to go to Windows Update and install all critical updates found for your computer.

Alrighty, I'm going to install those now.

When dialing up I'm having the same two troubles, and I set the volume on high.

Thank you for all of this, I appreciate it so much!

Microsoft Windows XP and Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 1

or

Microsoft Windows XP 64-Bit Edition Service Pack 1

or will either one of those work?

Well, I've updated my windows from the two links you sent me. During the updating, i recieved two notifications from my PC-cillin saying the following files have been detected:

C:\System Volume Information\_restore{F20DC6C2-5212-4F33-8959-AB7D05D4CDB6}\RP123\A0049172.exe - DIAL_PORNDIAL.DX

and

C:\WINDOWS\System32\909g89me.exe - ADW_SAHAGENT.A

I'm not sure what to do about those two things, but I do know that they don't sound good.

Here's my HijackThis! log just incase you need it:

Delete this file:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\909g89me.exe

Flush your system restore, this will delete any restore points that you have but it will also make sure that any malware hiding in system restore will be booted off.

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on and create a restore point.

To create a restore point:

Single-click Start and point to All Programs.
Mouse over Accessories, then System Tools, and select System Restore.
In the System Restore wizard, select the box next the text labeled "Create a
restore point" and click the Next button.

Type a description for your new restore point. Something like "After
cleanup". Click Create and you're done.

That should take care of those two files that your antivirus picked up on. Your log looks clean. Are you having any more problems?

Are you having any more problems?

Nope, nothing else except for those two dial-up problems.

Thank you for all of this. I know I've said it a million times, but I appreciate it so much. I've learned a lot from you and I just want to say thanks for everything. :D

It's been my pleasure to help. :)

OPTIONAL FIXES
You can have Hijackthis fix these lines as well. None of these lines are malware, but just unnecessary programs that load up at startup and hog your computer's resources. This will make your computer load faster and run better, but if you notice something listed that you use often and want to load do not fix it with Hijackthis.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:
Disable and Enable System Restore. - If you are using Windows ME or XP then you should disable and reenable system restore to make sure there are no infected files found in a restore point left over from what we have just cleaned.

You can find instructions on how to enable and reenable system restore here:

Managing Windows Millenium System Restore (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=63)

or

Windows XP System Restore Guide (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=56)

Renable system restore with instructions from tutorial above

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
Click once on the Security tab
Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
Click once on the Custom Level button.

Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt

Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable

Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable

Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt

Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt

Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt

When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.

If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.

Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.

Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

See this link for a listing of some online & their stand-alone antivirus programs:

Virus, Spyware, and Malware Protection and Removal Resources (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=405)

Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.

Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

For a tutorial on Firewalls and a listing of some available ones see the link below:

Understanding and Using Firewalls (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=60)

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.

Install Spybot - Search and Destroy - Install and download Spybot - Search and Destroy with its TeaTimer option. This will provide realtime spyware & hijacker protection on your computer alongside your virus protection. You should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Spybot - Search & Destroy to remove Spyware , Malware, and Hijackers (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=43)

Install Ad-Aware - Install and download Ad-Aware. ou should also scan your computer with program on a regular basis just as you would an antivirus software in conjunction with Spybot.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using Ad-aware to remove Spyware, Malware, & Hijackers from Your Computer (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=48)

Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

A tutorial on installing & using this product can be found here:

Using SpywareBlaster to protect your computer from Spyware and Malware (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/index.php?showtutorial=49)

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.
Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

Hey there,

Well, I guess there is just a little but more lurking around on my computer, and here's the following files my antivirus picked up but couldn't delete:

C:\WINDOWS\Buddy.exe
C:\WINDOWS\hod6uqe8.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\axuninstall.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rpgqnd.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\topsys.exe

C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsxsvc\wsx.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsxsvc\wsx.ocx
C:\WINDOWS\system32\wsxsvc\wsxsvc.exe.tcf

Those seem to be the only files that keep showing up. I'll post my HijackThis! log just incase you need it.

Your log still looks clean. Just go in and manually delete all of those files that you posted. They are all bad.

How is your computer running?
