doing my calc hw, and i;m completely stuck need some help
how do you put this function f(x)=3/(x^2+x-2) as the sum of a power series?
thanks in advance.
If I remember, moninn is pretty good at it.

I took 4 semesters of calc, and I can't remember what a "sum of a power series" is. Sorry man :(

I have no idea.
All I can see is doing it like this:

Diviiding it all out. My book has the first example.

The method mmonin shows is probably what they want you to do if you haven't learned any formal series expansions yet.
I get the following:
-3/2-3/4*x-9/8*x^2-15/16*x^3-33/32*x^4-63/64*x^5+ ....
but I suck at dividing .. so don't take that as the absolute answer ..

I got the same as you q...I think this should be the answer in cool summation notation.

Agreed. What is this program that could have done my work for me a few years ago.
God bless the Ti-89

too bad we can't use calculators on exams or quiz or basically anything for my class.

My TI-89 saved my butt so many times. I had the hardest time remembering rules of integration and differentitation, but the calculator never forgot :D
