Thanks you guys! :D

QCH, happy 1st birthday to your daughter too!

For my big gift, I'm putting together another socket 754/mobile A64 machine. :D Nothing as grandiose as a FX55 box, but if this one overclocks as well as the last
A64 machine I built I'll be very happy.

I'm presently out at the rig for 13 more days, so I will have to wait to play with my new birthday present though. :bawling:

Man I tell you, these socket 754's are going to be the next kick-ass economy folding machines. You can get the mobo's for less than $100 and these Clawhammer mobiles for good prices too, plus with the big core on them they are much easier to cool than an XP-M even.

That's what I was thinking too. We're trying to figure out the "cheapest", "best" processor/mobo combo for dedicated folding rigs, and I'm really leaning towards s754/sempron sets....

Whoops, got hung up having to that awful stuff called "work"; YUK! ;D

Prime, yeah I think they should work out well. As for costs, let's see:

Sempron 3000+ Palermo core (.09, retail) -$99 free shipping, Chiefvalue.com
Biostar NF325-A7 nf3-250 mobo -$55 free shipping, Chiefvalue.com
TwinMos 256 MB Speed Premium ram -$36.00 shipped, Newegg
Sapphire Radeon 7000 vid card -$27.00 shipped, Chiefvalue.com
TT Silent PurePower 420 psu -$36.00 shipped, Newegg

Total for folding machine - $253.00

This would provide a machine that should perform well and should be overclockable. I don't know much about the Biostar board but it is using the nf3-250 chipset, so should have a working AGP/PCI lock. I've read over at the overclockers.com forums that the Twinmos speed premium ram is Winbond UTT and it overclocks decently with enough volts, about like BH5 or BH6. This should provide for fairly tight memory timings. The TT psu is presently running my mobile Claw system at 2700 MHz stably so should do just fine.

Also, thanks you all for the kind words.

Do you think there's a mobo that is less than $82 that has onboard LAN?

muddocktor

The one I priced out has onboard LAN, Prime. Do you mean onboard video by any chance? :)
